McCaffery talks RPI, Marble and the NBA and more

He would probably profit from another year, BigD......

The potential appears to be there, polish up his D and make that three reliable and it is certainly possible.....

They sure do seem to be talking about it a lot. I don't see it happening, Roy leaving early. But if it does then he will have to play like he did in his last game of last season. And if he plays like he did against Oregon, we will one of the top teams in the B1G. If he plays close to it, we will make the tourney... Marble was electric in that Oregon game. Pure crazy. That was the best game by a Hawkeye since when? It's been years... Gatens play a few games prior was close. But it has been years since a Hawkeye has performed that well. Years...

I definitely was impressed, even surprised by Dev's performance in that game. But nobody's topping Gaten's performance against Wisconsin anytime soon, IMO. He flat out put the team on his back to beat a ranked team. Two shots he made that night stand out above any other shot from last season:

The long two he nailed while getting undercut. When he made that shot, I knew Iowa was going to win. It was clear Gatens was not going to allow them to get beat when he hit that shot.

The one-dribble three he hit in the corner with Gasser all over him. Just an unbelievably quick release on that one.

No doubt he brought good things to the team. Hopefully one or more of the freshmen will be able to step up and help fill some of that void or one of the veterans will be able to.

Might be the best game by a Hawkeye since his Dad's last college game at Illinios. He rained threes all game. Lou Hensen, that dastard, said it was the best game he had ever seen anyone play against one of his teams.....

Of course Gatens had a game or two/three at the end of last season that rank with the very best ever by a Hawkeye.....

:)

Let's not forget Justin Johnson's game against Indiana a few years ago. The last few minutes of that game were nuts.

Actually it does come down to Gatens excellent games with Devyn's game at Oregon somewhat close.....

Exciting times ahead, Lads.....

The Marble to NBA talk needs to stop. He's a decent B1G player, but leaving early for NBA? C'mon man!
Marble probably won't leave early for the NBA. However, it needs to recognized that he is an unusual talent. There aren't too many 6'7" guards who can handle well enough to get a 2/1 A/T ratio playing a lot of PG. Agreed that he needs to consistently play D, show that he can shoot consistently, and be consistently aggressive. That kind of play is within his reach, but it would be a stretch to say he could reach it within this year.

he is a special player for sure. But I don't think he is quite 6'7". maybe he grew over the summer?

Roy senior has stated that his son is six foot seven now, but I'm not sure how much you can rely on Roy seniors statements. I do think I remember Fran stating that Marble is six foot seven now.
