McCaffery on Gesell, Officiating, and NIT Tickets

I have said it time and again this season. The BIG officiating is pathetic. They aren't against Iowa, they are just terrible at what they do. Watch any other conference and you will see missed calls, that isn't my complaint, as officiating is a very difficult job.

What you don't see though is letting teams beat the sh!t out of each other for 39 min. and then call a phanton foul on a shot 17 ft. from the basket. They are so inconsistent, as they let bodies hit the floor, push, shoving, holding, checking all over the place.....then they randomly call something they have been letting go all game long. Players are just doing what they did all game long, both sides, then are randomly called for a foul.

Just call it right away, and the player will adjust. I hate to say it, but I have more fun watching the Big 12 or ACC basketball, because they don't let that sh!t take over the game. The BIG has the best teams, and the best players in the nation, and we are stuck watching games in the 50's, and even 40's......That is on the officials, as they allowing mugging all over the floor.

It is getting pretty ridiculous. For instance, when I was watching Wisky and fOSU, the defender (guard) just put his palm on the ball handler's forehead and left it there. That's pretty effective defense if it's allowed.

Valentine has already said that Izzo is one of his favorite coaches, it isn't hard to figure out what happened. That and the fact he has worked twice as many MSU games as Iowa games, worked over 20% of MSU's games this year, and calls fewer fouls on the home team than any referee in the Big Ten.

The bad officiating happens every MSU vs. Iowa game. It happened last year in the big ten tourney and in the game in Iowa City. Nothing is done about it and nothing will be done about it in the future. I'm tired of watching refs. making calls that change the flow of the the game and MSU gets all the credit for it.

It is easier to elimate TO's when the other team is not hand checking and shoving you around the whole time.

Agreed. You could probably blame 4 or 5 turnovers on bad officiating. That would leave us with 15ish. While that's far from a good number, its not horrible against a team with MSU's athletic ability. It would have definitely been good enough to win the game anyway.

Unlike Bill Self...lost all respect for that guy this year.

Maybe if Freddie shows a little emotion on the sideline ISU wins one of those games. You can certainly make the case that Self getting t'd up those two time spurred his team on.

True but no one was touching Clemmons when he whistled a pass out of bounds (past White) that would have given Iowa a 6 point lead late in the game. I'm not railing on Clemmons...think he's going to be great. I'm pointing out that we can't do a thing about bad officiating but complain. When we do get a chance to make a play we have to make it so we can overcome the officiating. The Clemmons play just happens to come to mind off the top of my head. Experience will help with this as it will with so many of the other shortcomings we had this year.

So we have established that, without ambiguity, the Big 10, through the officials, assured Michigan St would be victorious in spite of whatever happened on the court.

My query to succeed that point; Is this the domain of the greater, Seth Davis run NCAA conspiracy to abash Iowa Basketball, or it is a divergent conspiracy supplementing the original?

Or you are extremely naive.

That, or maybe Iowa put themselves in that position by not closing out winnable games earlier in the season. Some calls went against Iowa in the last 8 minutes of that game, but if the Hawks hold on to last minute leads in a handful of games earlier in the year, and/or a 19 point lead in Lincoln, they're in regardless of what happens in those last 8 minutes.

It makes more sense then a group of men getting to that level of their profession, and then putting together a performance that would make Shaq look like an academy award winner.

I think it's essential for you to research the definition of "sense".

I thought white was being held (no call) when he was coming off that screen. Just say'n

We get it... Self influences officials. Welcome to our life in the B1G where there are multiple coaches not just one who influence calls. I also find it interesting that it is ok if coaches in your other programs engage in this type of thing and that is praised by your fan base.

Oh, most definitely. However, I think ISU is a few years away from getting Kansas level respect from Big 12 refs...acting like a tool on the sideline just to get a T when the refs won't change their attitude anyway is fool's gold.

And it's also interesting that the Iowa fanbase takes Kirk to task for NOT doing this.

Basketball is not Football...two different mindsets there.
