MBB: VanLaere’s Picks for All-Big Ten

One game out of how many? And let's be honest, Gatens was a freaking stud in that game and wasn't getting many open looks. He was just unreal and hitting tough shots. One of the all time great Hawkeye games!!

I know Appling put up 20 on him too.

On Gasser? So Gasser is guarding teams PG's now? In that case, looks like Matt gave up 23 to Dave Sobolewski (obviously he didn't)

Yes, I'm pretty sure it was Gasser and Taylor. They split duty w/ Wood too.

I know Appling had Taylor the whole game.

But been a while seen that contest I might be remembering it wrong.

I really don't know how good a defender Gasser is but I just never agree with giving it to guys with the most blocks or steals. A horrible defender can still get 2 blocks a game.

Gasser gets the benefit of the doubt being on a great defensive team

And, in my opinion, Wisconsin is an average defensive team. Just because they grab and pull you doesn't make them great on D. Purdue and OSU are great D teams because they are in your jock, but do it the right way. Wisc D is there because they limit possessions with their offense.

Oh but being able to flop real well in front of the officials doesn't make Wisconsin a great D?

Tom Crean should have easily won Coach of the Year.

You are joking...right? Indiana beat who on the road and lost to Minnesota at home. If the love affair wasn't with Izzo, it would have been Belein...my guess is that Crean/Belein took votes away from each other allowing Izzo to worm in to win.

Beilein should have won it. His talent base: 1 top 50 recruit, with a couple of top 125 guys. Izzo: 3 top 30 guys, 2 top 70 guys, including a 1st team All American and league POY.

I think Gatens was a better defender than Gasser this year, but they threw Wisky a bone because of their slow pace keeps scoring down.

Gatens should have been 2nd team by both votes.
No major gripes otherwise. Hummel came on so strong late,he jumped into the picture.
Taylor was a hype pick...was just average for much of the year.
Frazier had the better complete season.
Zeller/Burke was a good solution at FOY. Both deserving.
Good year for the league, lots of players to choose from. Aaron White was worthy, and I like how this makes it clear he was the 3rd Rookie in the league, which he was.
