Maybe ISU will be a legit P5 opponent

I don't think it is some sure thing that ISU is better next year over this year, and this year they are just another ho hum team. This is an improvement over being what Kansas was yesterday though for the last 4 years. They look like they will get to 6 or 7 wins.

The are losing the following next year on offense:

Ryen, Lazard, and Murdock at WR.
They lose their starting LT Campos starting LG Garcia

On defense they lose:

A starting DE Waggoner, starting DT in Trent, starting MLB Lanning, they lose their "Star" LB they call them in Edwards and Alexander. They also lose both Safties in Cotton-Moya and Wilkerson. They also lose their kicker and punter.

I think their days of 3 wins teams will be over as long as Campbell is there, but they aren't going to be some 9 or 10 win team that will be favored coming into Kinnick every year.

I just can't get with this thought process. Beating a 5-7 ISU team does what for Iowa? It is not the difference between the Music city bowl and Tax slayer bowl. It doesn't change the national perspective of what people think of Iowa. All it does is make their fan base more annoying.

You need to take things a little slower, then. It isn't difficult--at all--to figure out.

OU now trails Tex w/ 8 min to go. Maybe they're not a great team.
They are not a great team. They got hyped because they caught Ohio St at the best time they could have. They were taken to the wire by Baylor (worst program in football), Texas and Isu whooped up on them. OU will finish with non less than 3 losses.

I am not a neurosurgeon, but I get it. Imo, ISU being relevant only matters when Iowa is really good.

I still think they will be better assuming Park is back. Campos might get a medical RS, they have depth at WR, and the rest of the offensive line is underclasmen so they should be better.

Defense, they lose Waggoner, however Tongamoa should be up to speed and a valuable replacement for Trent. However they have been playing only 3 down guys for a bit so Lima really is the big DT for now. Lanning and Cotton Moya will be big losses.

Park? I wouldn't rely on him to be your savior.

After last week's shocker and now up 31-0 on a lowly Kansas team that ISU usually has problems beating there might be an actual change in Ames. Maybe if ISU gets decent the Hawk coaches will have to open things up a bit or at least add some wrinkles and play some more young players sooner to show recruits they can play more, earlier at Iowa.

This might make a few of you wake up but maybe ISU will start being the favorite in this series more than not.

If they start beating the occasional top 10 team and beat all the teams they should win against, yes, they will be a formidable P5 team. The real key is consistently beating all the teams they should beat. That is the telling result.

The problem they will always have in Lames is if they do become legit ... Campbell gets offers elsewhere, leaves for greener pastures, and they start the coaching merry-go-round once again.

Agree, that is why the NEXT hire after Campbell will have to be Pollard's most important football hire. That is if Pollard is even still there.

I see what you are saying. A team can only hope they lay the foundation and are able to keep it going with the new hires. That is what they have to hope for. They have to make sensible hires that follow their identity or how they want to play on the field. Wisky does this and is why they transition very well with coaches.

not beating Iowa or Texas will cost them.

Not this year. They played both tough and beat OK on the road. They are AT LEAST at this point meeting or exceeding expectations. Campbell knows he is building it up so I don't think those two losses are killing them this year. A win against either would be icing on the cake. None were bad losses. They are still on track for a decent bowl.

even if ISU starts winning more games then they lose they'll always have the stink of ISU on them and will be forever considered a joke program in football

Not if they have a good run of years. We've seen it before with teams. Snyder fought that at Kansas St when he took the job. Northwestern was always a joke or a preseason win prior to Gary Barnett getting it going and now Fitz.

I want the Clowns to be just good enough that some better program comes along and makes Matty Cumball an offer he can’t refuse, and then their dill weed of an AD is left hiring a HC, once again setting Clown Football back in talent and consistency. Lames has always been a coaching graveyard. Either that or it is the place you wanted to be from, not at.

I want two good teams in the state as it makes the state better as a whole, or at least the perception of it. Throw in FCS Northern Iowa and then would look really solid. It would make everybody better, IMO.
