It's perfectly allowed to support law enforcement while also criticizing some of their misdeeds. The two things aren't mutually exclusive ya know.

I agree with this 100%, but at the same time it's fair to put some of the blame on Wirfs as well. I think it's ridiculous that he was arrested. But stupid law, or not he broke it and was aware of what he was doing and the fact that he tends to stand out. That said, I agree with other posters that said the officer easily could have hinted that he was going to leave and return in an hour without picking him up.

Yeah its a grey area, but one area I think IC police go out of their way to target athletes. At other schools the police seem to go out of their way to avoid targeting athletes.

Not to mention that time the IC police pulled their guns on Faith Ekakitie for playing Pokemon Go in a park.....

I hear you. Like you said it's a gray area, but as I said I think both parties have to be accountable. BS arrest...absolutely, but if law enforcement is under fire for ticketing him (whether single him out or not is a completely different argument) then he has to be held accountable for putting himself in that situation knowing full well that he was putting himself in a compromising position.

I guess no matter what happens the outcome sucks. If the officer tickets him simply for being there after curfew he runs the risk being accused of singling out an athlete. If he lets him off with a warning, then some could see it as giving an athlete (or a student) a free pass and failing to do his job. As stated before I don't necessarily agree with the arrest, but I think it's a bit harsh to put all the weight on law enforcement's decision to arrest him and none whatsoever for his decision to be there in the first place.

On the bright side, it's behind him and won't be something that will affect him or the program at the end of the season.

I had a couple terrible experiences with IC cops when I was in school. However, whenever I go back there for tailgating though the cops have been nothing but good to me.

I don't envy their jobs at all. I'm sure they've seen, heard and dealt with a lot of crazy shit in their careers.
