Marsteller to PSU

I think I like you Trapper! Ive gone beaver Trapping a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it. ;)

What I find hilarious is how you can say what you do in this thread and then on Hawkeye Report say that Iowa needs to amp up it's recruiting. Which is it? Are you truly happy with who we have, or do we need to start pulling in the bigger names...like I suggested?

It would be amazing to get Pico! i've seen this kid and he seems like the real deal (i mean Olympic champion real DEAL). How does Iowa get him?

What you are trying to do here just doesn't fly. I never once said that Iowa shouldn't amp up its recruiting in this thread. I suggested you quit worrying about what Cael and Penn state is doing and get excited about the loaded recruiting class of blue chip guys coming off redshirt. Clark, Gilman, Brooks and true sophmore Burak. That is the glass half full thinking way.

Nobody is going to make you excited about hawkeye wrestling Herkey unless the Hawks land a top 5 recruit, because with you its all about "ranking numbers" What were Mcd, Dennis and Borschel ranked?
The top high school wrestlers hail from Pennsylvania. Cael is the greatest college wrestler of all time and is coaching in the hottest bed of recruiting you can have. Iowa just doesn't have the high school talent right now for Brands to scoop up. Deal with it

I believe in Tom and Terry and am going to stick by them even if they can't get the "top" guys. They are the best coaches and motivators out there. They have an undeniable ability to mold and shape these kids into great AA wrestlers and even better role models.

Not everybody agrees with you have to accept that. I would like to see the Hawks land another solid Heavyweight and a 57/65 pounder for the future. If they don't im not going to freak out. I am more than thrilled that the Hawks already have Broc Berge, Burke Paddock, and Aaron Bradley. Brands will turn them into wrestling machines before they graduate.

Instead of stressing about PSU I am going to get pumped about these studs next year.

125- Gilman/Clark
133- Razor/Clark
141- Razor/Dziewa
149- Cooper/Kelly/Grothus/Marlin
157-DSJ/Sorenson/Cooper/Kelly
165-Moore/DSJ
174-The Stache/Meyer/Brooks
184-Lofthouse/Brooks
197-Burak
HVY-Telford

I suggest you do the same. And remember "Accept the things you cannot change"

Whatever...you talk out of both sides of your mouth, but spin it however you want. Also, please provide me a link where where I said that I was "all about ranking numbers". Obviously there are kids out there who will develop into tough AA guys in our room. It's what Brands does, and I am not arguing that. The problem is while we develop kids into AAs, PSU recruits kids that are legitimate National Title contenders out of the chute, and I also mentioned that it has been a long time since we got one of those kids. We need to have a mix of the two to overtake Penn State. I think it is a little short sighted to say it doesn't matter who the three time defending Champs are recuiting and reloading with--a team that we seemingly can't catch.

I don't talk out of both sides of my mouth. You are mistaken. I don't agree with you and you can't accept that. You are the type of guy that would lie about stealing cheetos if you were caught orange handed. You should just become a Penn State fan already.. "If you don't love it, leave it"

Oh my goodness WildTurkey! This doesn't need to be a pis$ing contest; it's just reality. Yes we're all spoiled with the Hawks past success but that doesn't mean we can't get better at recruiting or try other successfully approaches. I'll go back to my Alabama football analogy. Since they had great success under Coach Bear Byrant should they still stick to the same exact game plan in today's recruiting environment...simply answer is NO. Everyone needs to adapt. Also us, "spoiled fans" are the ones buying tickets and in my case season tickets for years now. Tickets have more than doubled in the past few years, so yes I want a national championshipS. You continue to be happy with our 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc place finishes. I'll continue to buy my season tickets and expect titles much like the great programs aka Alabama football OR today's PSU wrestling teams do year after year. I'm not saying our Hawkeyes don't expect titles either; I'm just saying you or your "unspoiled, we must catch lightning in a bottle to be great", recruiting ways are old and outdated.

Craig you,Herkey,Pin and whoever else can shake your head at me all you want. I'm ok with that. "No one can make you feel inferior with out your consent"

Iowa doesn't have top talent in the state this year or next or maybe several to come. Pennsylvania does every year. Its easier to recruit out of your own back yard than your neighbors. Especially with the lower instate tuition costs. Im all for Iowa getting the top guys same as you. I just don't cry like some when it doesn't happen.

No your problem is that you only look out of black and gold sunglasses and can't see that PSU is pulling further and further away from Iowa right now.

HerkeyHawk I hate to agree with you but your post is dead on. I know the majority will say we've had number one recruiting classes in the recent past but he was a special talent. PSU is killing it this year in the recruiting department. All of us Hawk fans were waiting for Taylor, Ruth, Q, etc to leave but these guys are just reloading. Bottom line we're getting great talent that can AA BUT PSU is getting the best talent which produces National Champions!

Ever since 2008, Penn State has had 7 national individual wrestling champions. Five of those came from Ruth, Wright, and Taylor, three very exceptional wrestlers. Davis won in 2008 and Molinaro finally won in 2012. It's not like Penn State is ******** out four or five a year.

you need to get top level guys in recruiting. Penn state is getting the top studs and it's showing. I know for a fact that Brands believes the way to close the gap on PSU is to try to get more blue chippers. you still have to out work and out develop PSU once you get them, but to think you're going grab guys like Mike Kelly and magically make them in to elite studs is laughable. One common trap many iowa fans fall into is thinking it's common place at Iowa to have guys like Jesse Whitmer. He's the total outlier, not the norm. Guys that have had a lot of success for us have been out top recruits. metcalf was #2 overall. Borschel was #19 overall McD was #14 overall (which often gets forgotten) DSJ and Ramos were elite level recruits. you win big w/ highly ranked studs coming out of high school. do they all turn out? no, but that's not the point. if you don't get a handful of elite guys each year, don't plan on winning national titles. We all love clark/gilman/brooks and guess what, all were top 25 overall type kids. you gotta get the studs, it's as simple as that.
