Marsteller to PSU

HerkeyHawk I hate to agree with you but your post is dead on. I know the majority will say we've had number one recruiting classes in the recent past but he was a special talent. PSU is killing it this year in the recruiting department. All of us Hawk fans were waiting for Taylor, Ruth, Q, etc to leave but these guys are just reloading. Bottom line we're getting great talent that can AA BUT PSU is getting the best talent which produces National Champions!
 
For people that follow recruiting it was no surprise in the least the lions got Chance. How about instead of posting about Penn states recruits you say something positive about the recruit the Hawkeyes got yesterday? This is a Hawkeye site after all.

Good call Turk. While we rejoice over #39, the team that has handed us our @$$ at Nationals the last three years sign 3 top 5s including the overwhelming #1. When was the last time we signed even two top 5s? PSU seems to do this on an annual basis...

Well I guess I'm a glass half full kinda guy. You.. not so much. What about the loaded class Iowa got last year? Recruits like Gilman, Clark, Meyer,Sorenson, Brooks haven't even got chance in the lineup yet. Burak looked great for a freshman at 197. I am going to focus on who the hawks have currently not who Penn State has for the future. Wasn't Mcintosh ranked #1 out of high school? He sure looked average in college so far.

Are you really surprised marstellar went to Psu? Really? You seemed shocked that the greatest college wrestler of all time can reel in top recruits from Pennsylvania. Keep crying about it, I'm sure that will help the Hawkeyes

Lol okay. You're right...who will wrestle for a team that takes us to the wood shed has no effect on the Hawks. You can keep your glass half full head buried in the sand while elite talent funnels to Happy Valley. I'm sure that'll help the Hawkeyes.

Seems to me that you are the one with your head buried in the sand. I don't think any positive thing I can tell you right now about the Hawkeyes will help you pull your head out either. Anything short of delivering a # 1 ranked wrestler to your doorstep that is. Good day sir

Yes cause you are right Iowa should be happy signing barely top 40 guys while their biggest rival is only signing top 5 guys
 
It sucks to hear but everyone knew he was headed there and I still like our class. The hawks time will come.

Iowa and PSU recruit differently and handle their recruits differently when they are on campus clearly by what recruits have to say after choosing PSU or Iowa
 
The problem seems to be hit and miss as far as the Iowa (and surrounding) HS scene is concern. PENN always has top notch recruits, but when Iowa has multiple studs, that's when we get the #1 recruiting class.
 
Iowa fans sure have been spoiled over the years. Most teams would be thrilled to have the #39 recruit overall. Unless the kid is top 5 I guess he isn't even worth mentioning. Was Jay Borchel a top recruit? Dan Dennis? Marion? McDonough? Nope, but im pretty sure they all made the finals.
Some fans just make me shake my head.
 
WildTurkey I get what you're trying to say but let's put some reality into the situation and move into the present and more importantly the future; enough with the past. We recruit All Americans while PSU goes after the juggle and recruits National Champs! You think Alabama football is good with 3* & 4* recruits while everyone else in the SEC goes after 5* recruits?! Absolutely not, they adjust when needed and get the very best players out there. We recruit 3* and 4* recruits and hope the "Iowa way" creates a miracle. PSU hits home runs and recruits like Alabama football.

I see both sides. a year ago it was guilbon. now are you disappointed that we got only got gilman and clark. same thing with the steibers, iowa had to settle for ramos. iowa isnt taking in leftovers from anyone, they're recruiting kids who fit their style and developing the heck out of them.

every recruiting class has small number of recruits that everyone closely follows (destin, massa, guilbon, steibers, hall, pico, etc) and iowa does not get those guys.*I dont get too worried about it. I like to remember that nate moore was a top recruit, and mcd was a quality room guy. that said, seems like chance is pretty close to a cant miss.

Completely understand what you're saying. My concern is that our approach appears to not quite be enough to overcome the "ready made super star" approach. Obviously developing kids is best long term, however it sucks to see a team we can't catch (because of two phenoms) reload on that type of talent. We shall see I suppose.
