Marcus Paige

I'm not cutting you down here- but didn't you just list the same to things as strengths and weaknesses? Or are you saying he has the quickness to get to the rim- the strength is another story?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. He is quick enough, just wondering about the strength to get there.

Why would he want to come to IOwa and be ripped upon like Gatens is.

And he won't get criticized if he goes to a school like UNC or Duke? Yeah, no pressure at all to perform at top-flight programs like that. I guess that's a phenomenon that's unique to Iowa..

This is a ridiculous statement. Harrison Barnes is being ripped on by everyone in the national media. If he was at ISU or Iowa he wouldn't be ripped on like he is because he is at a high profile school.

Our players will draw criticism when deserved but we will also stick up for them like a big brother when others try to.

Agree 100%. When I was watching Illinois & UNC last night, and they were talking about Barnes, I was thinking "Maybe you should have gone to ISU?"

Moronic post for the reason's stated above. People need to stop acting as if Iowa is the only fanbase that critiques it's players. It happens EVERYWHERE and at places like the blue bloods of college basketball it is even moreso.

Hoiberg was at the game so that pretty much cancels Iowa having a chance. Fred's presence in any recruits eyes is an automatic comitt. Fred Hoiberg is a legend and NBA all star. Because Fred Hoiberg is a recruiting magnet according to Clown fans. So I guess Fran shouldn't waste anymore time because what God wants, God gets says Cyclone Nation.

I know for a fact that Paige likes coach McCaffery. Don't know if it would be enough to keep him in state. But, I think it is premature to say that Paige absolutely will not be going to Iowa at this point!

And don't forget his impressive RoloDex. I hear it's gold-plated, with diamonds inlayed all around.

Okay I won't say that. But I will say that he is not going to be in the state of Iowa for college. ISU and Iowa would be better served expending money and resources elsewhere.

Totally disagree with this. Even if you don't have much of a shot at them, you have to spend time and energy on good in state guys. Other recruits see this, and if it is known that you don't go after good recruits in your own back yard, that is a bad message to send. Your not going to get all the recruits you go after, but it is definitely worth going for in state kids! You have to make an effort to get the Paige's, and the same goes for Woodbury, Gessel, Staten, Ogelsby, Utoff, etc......

its not like we're flying cross country to see the kid, he's right in our backyard. this is where fran differs from lick's ultra-passive style. he's going to give it his best shot, and why not? the kid would excel in our system, and i know he and gesell like the run and gun style.

i see marcus as the next dean oliver, and possibly/probably better, and deano was one of my favorites!

And Dean Oliver was about the last in-state recruit that had a national awareness to stay in state. If your from Iowa and you are a top rated overall recruit or one of the top 15 or so at your position nationally. I would bet a lot of money that your not staying in state.

that's true right now, but thankfully it only takes one. fortunately this isn't like football in that regard.

I'm not sure how you define "national awareness", but what about Horner, Brunner & Haluska? They all stayed in state. Just because their recruitment isn't espn.com front page material doesn't mean they aren't talented, and I'm sure those three would have had other offers from good programs if not Iowa or ISU. I'm not sure if Paige is at Harrison Barnes status yet, but maybe he will get there. Time will tell.

Pesonally, I don't want a coach who doesn't try to recruit a player because they think "Well, we don't have a chance, so why bother." Especially when it's an in-state recruit. Can't win if you don't play.

If we start waving the white flag, we may as well shut down the program.

It doesn't mean we will get Paige, but we have to try.

Horner, Brunner, Haluska not national. All knew they weren't good enough for the elite programs. Lafrentz, Barnes, Hinrich, Collison I would put Paige on their level at this point, well, maybe not Barnes as he was the #1 recruit at all positions.

Once KU, UNC, Duke, etc. start sniffing around it is pretty much over. As I heard that Bill Self (and he does NOT waste time and resources) was in Waukee the other night I would say this is done and dusted then. If you want to get those kids you have to get them to sign on in 8th or 9th grade. If you don't, they aren't coming.
