1) they guy can flat out coach

2) he is currently in a mid-tier conference...i am just guessing he wants to get back to a major conference.

3) he is personable

4) plays an exciting brand of ball

5) last i knew, his kid(s) live in ames...which would get him closer to them

6) because of his past history (drinking w co-eds), might be able to use that as leverage to get him a little cheaper.

7) the man has paid his dues from the past. he is sober. we all make mistakes. live and let live.

8) it would just kill cyclone fan.

GO HAWKS!

10) He got Torye Pelham and we were kinda/maybe/somewhat recruiting him last year

Dang, beat me to #9

and another thing.....it would get people excited about basketball again as far as hawkeye fans go. hey barta, you want to put rear-ends in the seats? HIRE LARRY EUSTACHY!

I am one of Eustachy's biggest fans. The guy is a GREAT coach. While at ISU, he made Roy Williams look like he should be coaching high school.

Beyond that, last year or two years ago he gave Southern Miss $25,000 of his salary back because he thought his team didn't perform well enough.

Unfortunately I highly doubt you will see him back in the state of Iowa. He has some definite demons, but it seems like he is doing well now and I wish him nothing but the best.

Too many strong feelings about him.
His hiring would only continue to split the Iowa fan base. Something we can not afford.
JMHO

why would this divide hawk fans? if larry came in and started winning games, i am guessing iowa fans would get over the fact the guy used to coach that other in state school.

If Iowa is going to hire a man who has had a drinking problem, then I prefer Billy Gillispie. Larry would be a disgrace at Iowa!

Simular reasons the Pierre Pierce thing divided fans. If someone like Eustacy came in here there would be strong mixed feelings (right or wrong). Any failure to live up to expectations and we would be right back to Alford's last years or worse given the fragile state of the program.

TrainMaster is right. This is a conservative fanbase that came very, very close to shutting down "In Heaven There Is No Beer". And the band still gets regular complaints.

Eustachy would be a great choice on basketball merits, but just isn't gonna happen. Which is too bad.

So we will settle for another weak hire that will get all of us excited....until the losses start piling up (i.e. Alford, Lick). Please..iowa fan need to get over themselves. this program is not going to bring a "big name" guy.

Didn't Eustachy have all of his success with Tim Floyd's recruits? Fizer, Tinsley, etc? Or did he actually recruit any of those guys? I'm kind of thinking not, but didn't know for sure.

I think there are MANY names I would prefer to see before we go this route.

FAIL.

The dude recently offered to give back some of his pay due to his 'lack of success' down there.....

It doesn't have to be a weak hire. Alford certainly was not a weak hire when it happened. It was a splash hire that resulted in some fantastic recruiting classes. unfortunately Alford himself wasn't quite ready at the time. It just didn't work out.

Heck even Lickliter wasn't really a weak hire. His name was getting pretty warm.

I am not making suggestions on who we should hire but I think we need to go into this carefully because this decision is Iowa Basketball. No darts.

I'd love Eustachy, cause even if the team still sucks you could go to the game and still be entertained. Hell it might be more entertaining when they lose then if they win.
