Major CBB changes on the way, can FB be far behind?

Yet you could take paid internships. Athletes don't get to. They get tuition, room and board paid for. That's pretty much it, and they don't have time for internships, which are very important.

We had a summer engineering intern at my company who played football at Wyoming. Saying athletes don't get to is just flat out false.

Fair enough. I still have a tough time seeing very many guys taking anything more than a few weeks-long internship. Most of the guys that I know who are taking internships now are just wrapping up summer-long gigs.

It is tough for them to do, no doubt about it. I believe he had to work overtime to make up the amount of required hours in a shorter amount of time, but it can be done. I just think the connections they make and academic support athletes receive far outweighs the disadvantages they face and any experiences they miss out on.

Fair enough. And maybe they do. I'm not a college athlete, so I don't know. I do know that being a college student alone can be stressful enough, I can't imagine having the additional stress of being an athlete.

I can't imagine having your tuition, rent, and food paid for. Most students would do just about anything for that.

Except put in the time and effort to be on a D1 football or basketball team. A lot of people wouldn't be willing to make that kind of effort.

Yeah, it must be awful. College kids getting 30-40k a year for working out and playing football.

I will step in and say that these kids are not exempt from taking out student loans? why is that not ever mentioned when it comes to these poor souls?

I have to side with Dwayne on this. I lived next to three of the Hawks a couple years ago (all at the same address), DJK, Clayborn, & Jacody Coleman. When we split a duplex, they led a pretty low demanding life at that residence. yes lifting, film study, and practice would amount to a lot of time spent.

TM you should know best that most of these players took the minimum credits required knowing that worst case scenario they will have a fifth year to finish up odds and ends when it comes to one's studies. or better yet cash their chips in and leave early for the NFL?

Difficult life? if you love what you do- you'll never work a day in your life.

wouldn't you agree these kids are doing what the love and would love to continue to play if they had the chance? they are given plenty

I say we tax all scholarship students. Technicaly, a scholarship, whether academic or athletic, is income. Under Federal law, "(e)xcept as otherwise provided" by law, income means "all income from whatever source" & is not limited to cash received. IRS regulations define income as "all income from whatever source derived, unless excluded by law." The amount of income recognized is generally the value received.

I am not really advocating that scholarship students should be taxed, but they are getting income tax-free. Hell, you go to Stanford for five years, the value received is probably over a quarter of a million dollars. I think that is a pretty good deal.

I just love lunatics who rant & rave, & are completely clueless.
