Did JD get scooped again? Whar JD?!?
Imagine that

Don't hold your breath. They are going to let Norm coach his last game without him being overshadowed by the new guy, as they should. I wouldn't expect to hear anything until 2012.
I think it will be an outside hire since it wasn't immediately announced who was going to replace.
Good point.
Only if you care about his feelings more than the team. Naming a new DC and filling the extra coaching spot can allow Iowa to recruit like they haven't been able to since Norm stopped being able to recruit. Norm is a big boy. Shouldn't have to protect his feelings.Don't hold your breath. They are going to let Norm coach his last game without him being overshadowed by the new guy, as they should. This doesn't make much sense. NCAA rules limit the number of coaches so a new coach couldn't help until after the bowl game anyway.

Yep, the OSU situation basically shows that this thinking is false. However, you wouldn't have to hire the guy as a coach, but hire him as recruiting consultant. Pretty sure the NCAA would give you the waiver in this situation. This doesn't make much sense. NCAA rules limit the number of coaches so a new coach couldn't help until after the bowl game anyway.
Anybody? Seems a little strong, doesn't it?Nothing against this guy, but if Iowa gets anybody from outside not named stoops be real hard for a lot of fans to swallow.

The only Ferentz coached team without Norm serving as in-game D Coordinator was the most disappointing and under-performing team during the Ferentz era. There is a distinct possibility that Norm was THE primary reason we have had a (mostly) good program since 2001. Offensively we have been mediocre. We have no evidence-based basis to believe that Ferentz can get us back to a ten win season without him. The hiring of a new DC will be the single biggest moment of the last 12 years in Hawkeye football, IMHO.

Anyone wonder why KF didn't come out and announce Phil as the new DC. One would think that KF would make it a clean transition and announce Phil. Maybe giving Norm his day or week before naming a successor? Just seems like the door was left open not like KF to do that unless there are more changes on the way IMO.
I agree. He was a great player, and a good coach who has churned out many good db's. He's also had to have learned quite a bit from Norm, with all their history together.i have absolutely no problem with Phil getting the job. he is highly regarded and is a great recruiter. LOL at people who look at last year and freak out.
