Cops just for the most part rub me the wrong way. The attitude you have to have to want to be a cop isn't something I mesh well with. You're right about the two cops that were murdered. But there were also lots of non cops that were murdered in 2016.
It probably does take a special personality to be a good policeman. I wish we lived in a utopian society where everyone love each other and were only looking out after another persons concerns, but we don't and never will. I'm sure there are a few police that aren't very good, but I think most, if you show them respect, will return respect. Most people are just trying to live good decent lifes, but not all people do.

Mixed feelings on this one. I agree if your life or a family members life "IS" in danger. I don't agree if you JUST PERCEIVE you are in danger.

People have been shot because an officer perceived a threat that wasn't there. A guy reaching for his wallet to give his license to an officer and is shot because the officer thought he had a gun in his hand. It happens and is unfortunate. That happened recently where an older black man was pulled over and reached quickly for his wallet that was in the glove compartment and he quickly stepped out of his car and turned to give the officer his license and the officer panicked and shot him once. Good thing he was a bad shot as he fired his pistol at the guy six or seven times but only hit him once.

The guy fell to the ground and yelled at the officer asking "why did you shoot me Inwas just getting my wallet to show you my ID. Fortunately he survived the shooting. Perception isn't always correct.

A Iowa City policeman is on patrol one night and notices a door suspiciously ajar. As he enters the building he slowly and cautiously goes from room to room. He approaches a door with his weapon draw and as he open the door he fires his weapon at an employee that was just sitting at his desk working.

If memory serves me right the office worker died from his wounds. I never heard what happen to that officer. Maybe it hasn't gone to trial yet or maybe it did. I don't keep up on all the news out of Iowa.

I know several police officers and most are just trying to make a living and do the right thing. However, even they will tell you there are some really sick people out there carrying a gun and a badge.

There's bad people in every profession. In my opinion there are many more good officers than bad. People need to go on a ride-along with them and see how it is. Sometimes you have a split second to make a decision and you hope it's the right one. Should the cops be put in the same situation we were in Vietnam you can't shoot unless you're shot at first? I walked point for 5 months and I wasn't waiting for somebody to shoot me first.
