Magic on Marble

I think because Marble and his dad talked so much about the NBA during the course of his last season, it makes some wonder where his loyalty and motivational direction was really headed. In other words, was he putting the cart a bit before the horse? Dev before the team? Who knows for sure.

I'm sure we will miss the bulk of his production on the court this coming season, but maybe not the baggage that went with it.

More insipid comments... Again, on what basis do you make these comments. Perhaps you are putting the cart before the horse.

I used to post on this site all of the time, but there are just so many hawk fans ripping on hawk players for no reason.

Racer...I don't think there are many Hawk fans ripping on Iowa players. I agree the majority of the posts have become negative. However, many of those posts are not coming from Hawk fans. There are A LOT of posters on here daily that hate the Hawks with a passion only an Iowa State fan (troll) could understand/appreciate.

If this site could figure out how to have a like button I'd push it now.

I was born in 75 so you do the math on when his dad was with the team. He was a hero for a young me. I am still shocked that he is getting a chance with an NBA team, when he was recruited we didn't exactly steal him away from Duke, North Carolina and Kansas. No great programs wanted him. Did Fran luck into a diamond in the rough or did he turn him into a diamond? I'll still be VERY pleasantly surprised if he's ever a starter in the NBA. A pessimist would say that he's the guy who took shots at the end of the game on a crappy team.

Marble was underrated because of how young he was when he graduated high school. You can tell he put in a ton of work, and the coaching staff did really good things with him. He was the go to guy last year because of his experience and he was a senior. I'm an optimist and I'd say he is the guy that took shots at the end of the game on a young team. The younger guys from last year should be a lot tougher this year. McCabe took a lot of shots toward the end of games last year and he was an experienced senior too. I have my doubts that Marble will stick in the NBA, but it remains to be seen.

Last year's team was a long ways from young. 3 seniors (all of whom had extensive playing time for four years), 3 juniors (two of whom had extensive PT every year), 4 sophomores (three of whom were starters as freshmen), and a lone freshman who averaged less than 10 mpg.

Marble took the shots because he was our best player. That's all the more complicated the equation is. We weren't young and we weren't a bad team. He was just a very good player who was our best option because he was damn good.

This is probably the truth of the matter, especially when you add the trolls in the mix, Windsor.....

You have to factor in that Fran didn't really have a lot of time to recruit the seniors that graduated last year. I doubt that the coaching staff would of really recruited any of the three seniors that just graduated hard if they had more time to recruit. Of the seniors this year I think Fran would of recruited Oglesby, but he might of went after a guy with more basketball experience than Olesani. I think White grew two inches after he was recruited by Iowa, so I don't know if he would of been a prime Iowa target either. White, Olesani, and Oglesby are solid players for Iowa, but there is a reason the coaching staff puts so much time into developing relationships. Its a tribute to the coaching staff and how hard the players work on how Marble, White, and Olesani have developed. I understand how you would think Iowa had a mature team last year, but I don't think the analysis is fair to the coaching staff. Marble is a good player, but he isn't that good. I did hear that the pro team he is on has signed him to a contract.

You can argue that none of the seniors would have been recruited to Iowa under different circumstances, but that doesn't mean last year's team was young. They had a lot of experience as a group, with just a handful of new faces (Jok, Uthoff) or inexperienced veterans (Olaseni).

If you say so.

If you say so. It is being reported in the Gazette that they have signed Marble to a contract.

Ok, how many NBA draft picks do you think are on the roster for next year? You seem to think that Iowa has NBA draftees all the time....they do not. Devyn is the best Iowa player since Haluska, with Brunner, Reggie Evans, and Deano as other candidates in the last 16 years. Only Reggie is not an Iowa kid and he was a juco.

My point is, that Devyn was that good, and at Iowa we depend on in-state kids or connected kids, like Devyn.
Saying that Fran would not have recruited him is unfounded. He was an Iowa legacy and he had a high ceiling due to his youth and frame.

Devyn was our only truly diverse skilled player last year...multi-dimensional. No one else could get his own shot with the clock running down. He will be dearly missed....we can only hope that Peter can resemble him.

Ya, he seemed to do pretty good in his summer league and got signed. He needed to do that to get what he wanted. If he can continue to put up similar numbers, he could be a serviceable role player.
