Magic on Marble

He looked pretty comfortable out there as a SF/SG. If he's consistent at shooting 3s and defense I think he'll have a role in the NBA. Remains to be seen if he can with the Magic. As far as opening games go him missing a free throw late is about the only thing to nitpick about. He did great. He had a better game then the other two rookies. I'm not a fan of that PG they got. He has no offensive game and if you don't have that then you sure as hell better stand out on D and he didn't seem to do that alot either.

Watched him a bit. Wish he was as motivated at Iowa as he is now.

So you think Marble went from being a lowly ranked recruit and scoring 5 pts per game, to going to first team all B1G and being one of 60 players drafted by the NBA in 4 years all with no motivation? I don't think you have any idea how much time, effort and energy he put in developing his game while at Iowa. That is motivation, even if you don't see it.

Well said, Dean. Can't fathom why it has become fashionable among some Iowa fans to rip on Marble. Came here as a lightly regarded 3* recruit and built himself into a 1st Team All-Big Ten player and a NBA recruit, leaving his name all over the Iowa record books.

Its a lot easier to be motivated at basketball when you don't have to go to college at the same time. I'm sure he put in a ton of work for basketball when he was at Iowa, but, if you are actually a student, college requires a lot of work too.

Since your comment was based off of a single game and you only saw a bit of it, I wouldn't read too highly into your assessment. There wasn't a single night where I felt that Marble wasn't motivated on the court.

That is probably his way in. A 6'6 guy that can play both guard spots. To stick on a NBA roster or the NBA in general he is going to have to find a niche, a role to excel at.

Yeah, I never quite understood the Marble backlash either. I guess people needed a face to put on the end-of-the season meltdown.

I think because Marble and his dad talked so much about the NBA during the course of his last season, it makes some wonder where his loyalty and motivational direction was really headed. In other words, was he putting the cart a bit before the horse? Dev before the team? Who knows for sure.

I'm sure we will miss the bulk of his production on the court this coming season, but maybe not the baggage that went with it.

This is where he wants to earn a living. In college, he was ballin' with friends. Where he is now is totally different. He has to be totally motivated to win a spot on the squad. This is the NBA, great players everywhere.

Did Devyn actually have ''baggage'' at Iowa.....never on a police blotter or in any trouble. Seemed like a hard worker who Fran loves. Is the ''baggage'' his dad attending the games? The leading scorer in school history is now considered ''baggage'' for attending the games? Or spouting about Dev's NBA future is considered a true negative? Not buying. Dev was a credit to the program, and I am proud that he is getting a shot at the NBA...bout time a Hawkeye made the league again.

Your comment makes absolutely no sense.

I used to post on this site all of the time, but there are just so many hawk fans ripping on hawk players for no reason. Marble was a great hawkeye, and did a lot for the team. Marble was extremely motivated.
