You can tell these players love their coach and vice versa.

Bryce Cartwright leads Hawkeyes to 2nd straight Big Ten win | TheGazette

“The last thing I said to him was ‘You get us home now,’â€￾ Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said. “He said, ‘I got you coach. I’ll get you home.’ Because he had to do it. He had to engineer victory at that point in the game.â€￾
“He said, ‘Take us home. We’re gonna need you,’â€￾ Cartwright said. “I took it to heart, and that talk right there probably won us the game in itself.â€￾

That's a great quote. I also like the swagger from Basabe: "I’m always confident on the court,” Basabe said. “I’m from New York. No environment is scary to me. I have my composure; 17,000 Indiana residents can’t intimidate me.”

He obviously didn't go through Terre Haute on the way there.................;)

I was going to post this as well. Kind of a "I'll make it coach" Jimmy Chitwood moment. He also had a nice drive and pass to Gatens that would have sealed it at the end that just didn't go down. I love his toughness.

This staff is the anti-Lick staff and I love it.

Earlier in the year I was on record (at least in Tweets and posts) about disliking how Cartwright played the game. I cringed at many things he did. I am stunned at his development. Kudos to Bryce and our coaching staff. Go Hawks!

I don't think I was really on the record, but I shared that sentiment. I got frustrated watching him force shots all the time. Now, when he "forces" a shot, it consistently falls, because he's taking the shots he knows he can make for the other stuff, he's dishing it off to someone with a better look.

A head coach has to have a tight relationship with his pg to get the max outta the team. Fran now trusts Bryce, and vice versa. It is great to see. If anyone saw ''The Journey'' last nite, you saw that same dynamic between Carmody and Juice Thompson. Carmody trusts him,and never wants to take him out of the game.

Weber and McCamey is the opposite...no trust,no chemisty...problems ensue, and they underperform for their talent.

Bryce Cartwright is involved in about 35% of Iowa's scoring if not more. He has really done a 180 on his assist to TO ratio. An impeccable job in the Big 10. He truly is the one player this team could not be without.

Here's an interesting thought. With the improvement that Cartwright has shown this year, what kind of improvement do you expect to see out of Cully in the next year or two?

I thought it was going to be this quote.

Q. Would you still have recruited another guard?
COACH McCAFFERY: Well, we would have brought ‑‑ Rick asked me this question on Saturday. We would have brought Bryce in anyway because Ben is not a point guard. And if you think about it, with Cully getting hurt, had we not brought in Bryce, we would be in big trouble right now
