I'm pretty positive the required additional donation amounts of $200 on up are just for men's basketball. But it is true that for the 2011-2012 season they will be shuffling around the wrestling season ticketholders seats based on your "priority points" which you earn both by giving money and by buying season tickets every year. So your seats might move and not be quite as good if you don't have a lot of points (I know I sure don't, but my seats aren't anywhere as good as yours, either), but you shouldn't HAVE to pay more money than you are now just to get season tickets for wrestling.

One thing I learned last year when I was recovering from chemo is that there isn't hardly a bad seat in Carver for wrestling. Several meets I chose to sit up top rather than go all the way down to my regular seats, and I still had a great view. So I'm encouraged by that.
 
I dont think there is a "good" price for basketball tickets, nobody will show up to see them get hammered all the time no matter how much they cost. Actually I wouldnt even go for free and I live in iowa city.

If you want to be a big boy, you must charge like the big boys. These major sports are not run on a shoestring budget. You can't drop non-revenue sports, unless you want to join the MAC or Mountain West. Most BCS schools have already moved to the mandatory donation for prime seats. Those who haven't will be soon.

The timing may suck for basketball given our recent lack of success, but there is reason for optimism.

It is what it is. Like everything else, it is all about the benjamins!

Its certainly possible, but its there job to project what the demand will be, and if they feel they can charge more they will.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, its just the reality of the situation.

It definitely sucks, I feel your pain.

But my point is you can't really be upset with the University, they're doing what any business would do if they feel the demand is there.

I'm actually surprised though, I figured they would have enough trouble getting butts in seats, let alone being able to charge additional money.

Interesting to say the least.
 
I will still go it just stinks that I will more than likely lose my seats. It will hurt more looking over to my old seats seeing some "rich",older couple sitting on their hands!!! That's what will upset me the most. If not for my wife,myself and the gentlemen in front of us it might be the least vocal section in Carver and will only get worse without us there. I remember last year when I was making fun of Northwestern wrestler about "laying on his belly"(while wrestling Metcalf) & the coaching staff turned and laughed about it. The funny part is some of the people around me said I need to settle down. That's what is upsetting most about this whole sitiution. Those type of fans are going to get all of the good seats where they sit there and do noting and us good fans that are die hards will get the leftovers.
 
Your football contribution counts. Therefore if you donate in those ranges for football you do NOT have to pay it again for wrestling/basketball.
 
I sympathize with Tobini, but this is what happens when you have the most successful wrestling program in NCAA wrestling, and also a basketball program that just stinks. The money has to come from somewhere. It's a shame that the roundballers can't pull their own weight. I doubt they ever will at Iowa in my lifetime.

I do think there is a social price to be paid for higher prices, and that's a demographic change in the fan base. Wrestling has been something of a blue-collar sport in the Midwest, and continued price increases like this could change that. The "older couple sitting on their hands" that Tobini talks about might displace the guys leaving farms and factories for Carver Hawkeye. Frankly, making sure that current students have reasonably-priced and decent seats should always be a priority. They are the primo-seat buyers of the future.
I can see why many people refer to college sports as a business, because it surely is, but I don't see many of us posting on a fan site for another business like Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, or Exxon anytime soon.

Now I know many of you dont care about ISU and I'm begging for jokes about ISU, but you have to donate 5k at ISU to sit in the same seats at Kinnick. Maybe that why we dont totally sell out many games(along with with the severe inconsistency), but JTS doesn't have even close to the same amount of seats to make up the difference.

Wrestling seats aren't going to change much. I think they are moving mine due to moving the media section. I will probably be more towards an end zone which I'm not super excited about but so be it--I don't donate crap and those who do should get something for it. I didn't own the seats I've had the past few seasons.

Don't think you're going to get moved unless your seats are in the new media area a la Spooner

To be fair, after I and others mentioned that the seating chart and info abut needing to make additional monetary donations that was included in the mailing was only for men's basketball and not wrestling, Tobini admitted that he might have misread it.

But he wasn't wrong about the very real possibility that his seats may move if he does not have enough priority points for his current location, which is a very choice location. That part is indisputable. I know some of you seem to think the only people who will be re-seated are those in the way of the new press section, but I haven't seen any actual evidence to support that theory.

At any rate, nothing will happen until after next season, so there's no point in getting too worked up about this now.
 
Spooner, I feel no need to apoligize to you as it was all ready stated I could have mis read it. I can gladly send you a copy of the letter I got from the University about season tickets and you can see for yourself how it can easily be mis read. I'm sure you find something to nit pick on this post also. Good day .......
