Look at BTN history, ESPN Negotiations

Always nice to hear about the mother ship getting bent over. I wonder if DP will run with some of this?

And then ESPN had to pay a ton to the SEC just so they wouldn't create their own network. It's good to be us.

Dude needed to drink the Champagne like a big boy. But pretty funny Delaney called it a re-gift. So far his stones have been working for the B1G. Just hope it doesn't hurt to much when his luck runs out.

Sweet... you got to love it when the under dog comes out on top. Call what he wants... Shapiro got called out and was left hanging with his pants down.

Good article. Dalaney did good with the BTN, but now his ego is so big he doesnt even comprehend what a huge f-up he did with the realignment and the divisional names.
Kinda feel bad for Shapiro, an Iowa grad.....things seemed to have gone down for him since his days at ESPN.

Awesome article. You almost never see someone publicly admit that they got the bad end of a business negotiation, so kudos to Shapiro for being so open about it.

The more and more I read about Delaney, the clearer it becomes that he is either Darth Vadar or Emperor Palpatine. Probably closer to Palpatine, because I don't think he's ever going to take the mask off and ask for forgiveness.

Well, the alignment could be re-adjusted after a few years; no way possible to make everyone happy. What names would you have used? I guess you could just go east/west or north/south and let the chips fall where they may.

I if had to compare Delaney to a movie character, I would go with Bogs from Shawshank.

Yeah, poor ba$tard

Shapiro left ESPN in October 2005 for a $10 million signing bonus from Redskins owner Dan Snyder to run the Six Flags amusement parks. He's now the CEO of Dick Clark Productions and consults for the NFL Network and sits on the board of the Tribune Company.

I realize he is still well financially, but I don't know what Dick Clark productions is...six flags, I believe recently filed bankruptcy...seems like a step down from the WWL. Also, he did a lot of good things while at ESPN. Playmakers was actually a pretty good show.

ESPN > worst NFL owner ever > oldest DJ ever

not a great career progression.

How could realignment have been better? Pure east/west would have been best for rivalries, but I can see why they wanted to balance the big 4. Division names are stupid, but I don't really care. Call them E/W or NW/SE if you like.

Realighment could have been much better. You split it geographically and you not only improve travel costs, but are able to keep more of the rivalrys together. (like iowa & Wisc) also most conferences split this way..it works and it makes sense.

Also, who are the big 4? In the b10 there is only one purely dominant team. fOSU, look at the last 10 years.

The travel cost difference would have been negligible.

If you don't know who the big 4 are, you apparently don't follow college sports.

big 4? um, fosu, psu, and neb?

you are telling me it was important to split up psu, um and neb? fOSU is the only team that scares anyone in the b10..glad we are not in their division. But really, with the championship game, the best team is going to win the conference, they could have kept things simple and it would have made people a lot happier.

I have no idea what that means. Care to translate?

Think Jon was referring to one of Kool Moe Dee's more popular songs "How ya like me now?"

Would love to see whomever wins division two years inb a row get naming rights for the division. Would love to see the hawks play in the 'Fry' division. Takes rivalries to a whole new level.
