Makes sense.

Lose to a 5-4 team, have your fundamental weaknesses exposed, lose your quarterback, and stay exactly where you are in the rankings.

Who cares about reality - all that matters is how big Mich-OSU can be built up before the game. Anything that happens before that doesn't matter to the committee I guess. They've clearly predetermined that the winner of that game will be in.

The politicking in college football is disgraceful.

Didn't they hate the Big 10 last year? I'm curious where we would be if we would have beaten Northwestern and NDSU. We could probably still get in with the 2 losses by beating OSU in the Big 10 Championship. It would mean Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State all have one more loss and we would be the undesputed best candidate in the Big 10.

But who do you put ahead of them at #3?

Clemson has lived on the edge all year and finally lost. Louisville lost to Clemson. Washington has played these easiest schedule of the Power 5 teams and got drilled by a 3 loss team (but a damn good 3 loss team).
Michigan beat Colorado and Wisconsin and have laid the wood to most of the teams they played including PSU. I get that they were missing players in that game but Michigan beat them by 30+.

As far as Ohio St goes. They're in the best position because Penn St is in the driver's seat for the West and will have to move on and play Wisconsin in the title game. While Ohio St will not have to deal with Wisconsin and risk a loss which could knock them out. Instead they'll stay home and still get in.

I said something like this in another thread. The football gods have been waiting for Michigan to become relevant again for a long time. It's all about the dollars. Michigan will not win against osu. Iowa exposed Michigan really bad. Michigan is looking down their nose at indy also and that could bite them in the butt ( no not Jake ) also. If indy beats Michigan it would blow up their whole gig. Go hooooooosiers.

I don't see the big deal, there were a lot of upsets. Do you think Clemson should be ranked higher than Michigan? They are coming off a loss at home to a Pitt team that came in 5-4. Kinnick is a tough place to play, the voters know this. I think it is great they are showing both Iowa and Michigan this much respect to keep them at #3.

The one eyed wizard, Dick Vitale picks The Wolverines vs Alabama and Ohio State vs Louisville in the Championship Series.....

This was revealed last evening during the Michigan State-Kentucky basketball game at MSG.....

Go figure.....

He should stick to basketball. I don't see many scenarios where the loser of the Michigan/OSU game can still reach the playoffs.

Another example of people thinking the college football landscape revolves around Iowa. No thought at all about what the rest of the nation has done. Anyone who gave this any thought at all saw this was going to happen.

I LOVE the fact that they didn't drop. Clemson didn't either.

The rankings SHOULD be about the full body of work / resume, not just your last game.

Plus there was sheer chaos across all the ranked teams. #2, #3, #4, #8, #9, #14, and #17 all lost. #13, #16 and #19 all had closer than expected (or wanted) wins. Even Penn State - Indiana was fairly close until PSU pulled away at the end.

Not surprised that one week of chaos didn't change things up too much. Nobody was able to do the mental gymnastics necessary to really figure things out.
