Last year I had the opportunity to coach Colby Knight who was sort of "rival" with Logan Ryan so I was able to learn a lot about Ryan's positives and negatives. I think Logan will be a very good 141lb college wrestler. It will be interesting to see how Iowa's lineup will shake out in a couple years.

Tagen is an extremely hard worker and already is living the Iowa lifestyle. This kid might not have the national attention but I think Brands and Co think they can mold him into a great college wrestler. This is a great addition to the room at the 141/149/157 weight class.

Pin how did Ryan do against Knight? Are any of OK4Ps records still holding up at the U?

Ryan beat him twice last year. Don't remember the scores.

Both of these young men sound like they are a good fit. The work ethic in particular of Lambotte makes me think of a Ramos or a Metcalf. Could possibly be the next leader in the room. I know that everyone wants to hit the mat and compete, but I think it so's intelligence in that Ryan wants to redshirt and get stronger. Sounds like a man who knows his limitations at this point and also knows what it is going to take to get himself to the top.

What have we heard on Sorenson / Marlin ? Are they redshirting? Iowa definitely is loading up on these weights hoping that they can get a couple to stick. Of these recent recruits, who do you guys think are the front runners?

What does everyone thinking as far as future lineups for 141-157?

2014-2015
141 - Dweiza (SR)
149 - Grothus (JR) / Sorenson (RSFR)
157 - Kelly (SR)

2015-2016
141 - Gross (RSFR)
149 - Grothus (SR)
157 - Sorenson (SO)

Is Marlin going to have a say in all of this? Is Sorenson a career 149er or can he put on the weight to get to 157?

I'd like to be in the room to see how Grothus, Sorenson, Marlin, Gross and Dweiza all rank. It's going to be interesting.

The only wrestler under the Brands regime who hasn't redshirted their freshman year is Nathan Burak, but he was in a different situation gaining experience at the OTC for a year. I reasonably assume the plan is to redshirt Marlin and Sorenson, but there's always a chance Sorenson could get his shot if he's the best option at 149. He's obviously getting his shot in the room and I assume he'll get some chances at open tourneys early in the season. Maybe he'll get to compete at Midlands similar to DSJ his RS frosh year.
