Are we the new Northwestern? Hard to take anything away from this one.

I know Purdue is good on their homecourt and we are lacking in talent. But, we looked junior high bad today on a number of things. This was step backwards day.

can't wait to hear the positive spin on this game...i hope everyone can see that this is embarrassing. That should be the end of the discussion.

My prediction of 0 road wins in conference is looking pretty solid based on this performance.

I'm not near as positive as some who have said we are turning the corner or are sold that Fran will right the ship after 1 conference game but this is a top 10 team in the nation.

We will compete when playing @ Penn St, Indiana, Michigan.. well I wanted to list more examples but couldn't come up with any. (maybe NW)

Marble has shown more signs of good things to come and I think it may be good for him to get a real taste of how much better some of the teams in the Big Ten really are to hopefully motivate him to bulk up a bit in the off-season and continue working on his ball-handling.

We've been the new Northwestern for the past four years... trying to get away from that. I think it'll happen, but will take time.

Have to keep this game in context, though.

Iowa's first three games this year in B10 have been against Top 25 teams. It's not like Iowa is sitting 0-3 in conf after losing to Ind, UM, and PSU.

NW is 0-3 in conf too, BTW, after allll that hype.

I understand what you are saying Stormin....just thought we would compete a bit harder today against an excellent Purdue team. Better days are ahead, but this was a step back compared to the past few games

Maybe. I don't think we can compete at an athletic level with any team in the conference. And if we are going to shoot in the 30's% with our complete lack of defense then we won't win a game. 0fer in conference is a very real possibility.

The telling thing about the game, though, is you can't find a positive really out of it.

Maybe the officiating? It was above average today.

This is a work in progress, a project that may take 2-3 years to show marked improvement against Top 25 teams. We showed some against Ohio State; today was one of those days that nothing worked.

Among the staff's priorities has to be teaching how to shift the coverage when an opponent overloads the 2-3 zone to one side. Melsahn was getting beat time after time when passes went deep into his corner. Gotta step out quicker, gotta have the hands up.

So Iowa was within 2 pts in the last minute of the game vs. the #2 team in the nation in Ohio State and now suddenly Iowa is going 0fer in the conference?

Sorry I don't buy it.

It was a God awful game vs. Purdue. Ugly. Step back, etc... but there are games that Iowa will win in conf.

Actually these games make the Hawks better, they found out who can compete and who cant, I wish we could play sdsu and long beach next week, Fran has a solid plan it is not his fault that Lick did know how to recruit Big Ten players( we are a decent MVC team)

Marble and Baasbe will be decent Big Ten players, and hopefully we can add to that

I bet Gatens wish he could play for purdue, we made Smith look awesome, Gatens is a nice shooter(role player) when hot, but his facial expressions says it all, Purdue got to all the loose balls, played more physical and exposed the Hawks as not being very tough, give Fran time this team will look better next yr, but for now I hope we can steal a few wins to get to 6.

I really like our offensive and defensive plans we just need to uprade the players running it, I wish we could open 4 new spots next yr

Every team is going to have their off nights. We got OSU's and still lost. Also, I don't think you or I believe OSU is the #2 team in the country.

It was a step back for a team like this - but it's going to happen. Far better Iowa teams have gone on the road and gotten spanked by ranked teams in this league. It happens. lol

The thing that makes all this so difficult- is so many schools in the Big Ten have progressed SO MUCH and become national powers..... why we were stuck in the mud and even drowning in the mud. That is what makes the patience of all this so difficult. We need a couple programs in the Big Ten to have a Lickliter era.

I love having Fran as our coach. Such a tough job though. God bless him.

Anyone who thought there was a magic bullet to fix this program or that the rebuilding wasn't going to take a long, long time is being shown the frustrating reality.

I'm actually seeing progress. This team is much more fun to watch; gradually these guys and Fran will be able to make the adjustments to be competitive on the road against ranked teams; it is going to get better, I am very optimistic of that.

Fran deserves the time and space to attract the athletes and instill a style of play that will bring Iowa basketball back from the dead.
