Lickliter resigns from Marian (NAIA school)

Lickliter compiled a 49-36 record in three seasons at Marian, including a 16-15 record this season. The Knights ended their season on a six-game losing streak, capped by a 71-52 loss at Saint Francis in the first-round of the Crossroads League Tournament. Marian is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

That guy just can't get it done.
 
Did anyone listen to the OnIowa podcast this week? Dochterman's comment about Lickliter was hysterical! I was lol'n. The people on the treadmill next to me likely thought I was a coo-coo.
 
I'd feel sorry for the guy if he hadn't walked outa IC with a huge cash payout for the next three years. He doesn't need my sympathy.
 
Can a person free fall any faster.. National Coach of the Year in 2007 to resigning at Marian University 8 years later..! Wow!!

I wouldn't mind falling that much. It must be nice to have millions of dollars in the bank. The important part of the whole equation is where will little Lick get a job. I think he was an assistant to Lickliter.

All depends on how one manages those Millions and if he has Millions in the Bank.. :)
 
Has he thought about coaching high school ball. The thought of his offense with no shot clock should have him drooling and any parent packing their kid up in the event the school would hire him.
 
Man, that was a dark period. One more season of him at the helm and he would have effectively killed basketball at Iowa as opposed to leaving it in the critical condition that he did. Bad hire by Barta, but a good fire by Barta. I can only think that Lickliter was seen as the anti-Alford, at least in terms of his personality, which was a strong sentiment around Iowa City at the time. I bet Lickliter is a great neighbor, he was just not a great big-time basketball conference coach.
 
Just think, our AD thought at one time that Lick was a hire that had "sizzle". Yes, I realize he was NCOY the previous year, but I get the feeling Iowa should've hired a different Butler coach.. Like maybe the one who's coaching the Celtics.

Regarding Lick, I don't have anything at all against the guy, but am glad he's no longer our coach. The guy was just in way over his head.
 
He has made way more money just from Iowa than 90% or more of people make in their lifetimes so I aint worried about him. He got 3 years salary at Marian plus some good money at Butler. And he is just coaching a game with a bunch of young adults.

If he wisely saved and invested his money he shouldnt have to work at all. He could write a book about the "slow down offense in today's shot clock era".
 
Every time we see this guys name show up on the board we all lose 3 more years of our lives we'll never get back. It really dug a big hole for Iowa basketball after Alf. Eventually after Fran gets fired,,,, eeerrr I mean takes an NBA job (couch couch) hopefully the search committee (Bobby this means you) can bring in a national *ss kicking quality coach that can take us to the promised land. Sweet 16- Elite 8- Final 4.. Good luck Mr. Lickliter.

It was a really bad hire because Barta never took the time to find out why Lick was named Coach of the Year. Who on his Butler staff was responsible for what and who on his Butler staff was coming with him when we hired him. It was no secret that Brad Stevens was a huge part of Butler's success, when Barta hired Lick. I remember reading the Indiana Hoosier message board after Lick was hired and they thought Stevens was the motor.

It would be a good bedtime story for children. It would put you to sleep like his offense. :)
 
As others have said that was the worst hire and best fire ever by our AD. It took three short but agonizing years to completely destroy an entire program. The guy did not believe in AAU programs and refused to establish connections. I recall not watching or caring about games for the first time in my life.

So many think he was anti-Alford (being this good guy) but were there not stories that he was non communicative with his players? I had heard that Gatens and others on the team went to talk with him at his office and he threw them out.

The one assistant I really liked and had hoped Fran would keep was LaVell Edwards. He was snatched up quickly by Bielen and has been on his staff since (I think).

Unfortunately, see Joe Paterno. Has there ever been a worse fall from grace faster. Literally on top of the world and less than a year engranged in a sex scandal then dead.

LaVall Jordan is who you are thinking of and he indeed has been with Michigan for the last 5 years since Lickliter was fired.

'Junkie, that means that Lil Lick would actually have sex w/someone.....of the opposite sex, and the possibility exists that this child could look like him.....not sure I'm ready for that visual....:p
