One could argue that Peterson was an Alford recruit that Lick convinced to stay comitted once he was hired.

It came from the PC article that Spank just put up about Fuller staying..

Lickliter’s reign at Iowa has been hampered by numerous player defections, the latest being sophomore guard Anthony Tucker, who quit the team in February. Tucker is the sixth player on scholarship to quit the team after playing at least one season for Lickliter.

“Of the players that have left, I had recruited one of them to date, if I’m not mistaken,” Lickliter said referring to Tucker. “If you look back, players have left the University of Iowa before I came.

“If you look at Butler, I had very few players leave. I had a few. I take it very seriously your commitment to student-athletes. I want them to progress and graduate and that’s been my commitment to them.”

Lickliter creates a false argument...

with this little tidbit. Here's the deal. The only time the coach gets to play the "not the guys I recruited card" is when he comes in that first year. It's up to to the coach to talk to every player, get to know them, and if the coach determines he doesn't want the player in his program he needs to tell them to move on. From that moment on, those players ARE the coach's own players.

Jeff Peterson was neither signed nor committed to Iowa when Lickliter was hired. Peterson had high interest in Iowa, but Lickliter still had the decision to offer him a scholarship and bring him in. If he wanted someone else, he could have recruited that player.

So using Lickliter's logic, he shouldn't then take any credit for wins that Tony Freeman, Cyrus Tate, Jake Kelly, David Palmer, Gorney or Looby participated in. After all, he didn't recruit them.

It is a huge load of horsecrap to throw out the "only one player I've recruited has left the program line." One, it's not true. Two, it shows a stunning lack of accountability for the situation of the program.

I agree 100%, out of the 7(as of right now could be more) players that have transfer in the last 3 years

4 were never coached or played for Alford(Davis, Kelly, Peterson and Tucker).
