with this little tidbit. Here's the deal. The only time the coach gets to play the "not the guys I recruited card" is when he comes in that first year. It's up to to the coach to talk to every player, get to know them, and if the coach determines he doesn't want the player in his program he needs to tell them to move on. From that moment on, those players ARE the coach's own players.
Jeff Peterson was neither signed nor committed to Iowa when Lickliter was hired. Peterson had high interest in Iowa, but Lickliter still had the decision to offer him a scholarship and bring him in. If he wanted someone else, he could have recruited that player.
So using Lickliter's logic, he shouldn't then take any credit for wins that Tony Freeman, Cyrus Tate, Jake Kelly, David Palmer, Gorney or Looby participated in. After all, he didn't recruit them.
It is a huge load of horsecrap to throw out the "only one player I've recruited has left the program line." One, it's not true. Two, it shows a stunning lack of accountability for the situation of the program.
