I heard a rumor from a person in the media (not a blogger) that Lick would resign citing health two weeks ago. What I believe is Lick was given the opportunity to resign and has refuses. He is forcing Barta to fire him. To think this is all smoke and internet chat is being awfully naive.
This was obvious to me by simply paying attention to the behavior and comments by the relevant parties throughout yesterday.
1) Dolph, pregame response to caller: I met with GB
earlier this week and was told the [stock answer] ... will meet with TL after season, as do with all coaches.
"No decision has been made."
That's a far cry from the glossy support GB has been publically stating up until a few days ago. Something Dolph could have just as easily repeated.
2) TL's closing comment during immediate postgame sit-down with Dolph and Bobby (in response to Dolph's ? about when he will meet with his staff and GB)
"I have no idea ...
I only take care of me. That's up to Gary Barta."
Followed by his formal post game statements in the media room:
“You know my future is that
I’m healthy, I have a great family, I love what I do. I’ve done it well. And that’s not in my hands.â€
Those 2 itallicized comments did 2 things:
a) publically took the "health reasons" off the table;
b) I "take care of me" = buyout $.
3) Finally, the succinct official statement by GB (who, earlier, had said he would not address the public?) applauded the players' efforts and future and deliberately omitted any reference to TL -- because he does not include TL in that future.
The innuendos speak volumes.
TL is letting GB know there will be no "resignation". He's also letting the college bball world know he is healthy, willing and able.
GB is already attempting to head off any player defections and salvage a very decent recruiting class through his reassuring, supportive comments.
