Call it the "un-official Hawkeyenation opinion" on what will happen.
Don't vote for what you want to happen, vote on what you think will happen.

Well why not just make a poll then?

Personally, I think the situation is too far gone for Barta to do anything but cut Lickliter loose. I've been of the opinion all season that Lickliter should at least get one more year to see what he can do with a full returning roster - but if Barta brings him back now, after the events of the past few days, the anger in the Iowa fan base will be out of this world.

I'll go on the record as saying Barta will officially fire Lickliter on Tuesday.

I still believe, and we'll probably never know, that Barta's intention was to have Lickliter "resign" citing health reasons, but Lickliter, being the stubborn man he is, made sure to say in his post-game presser that he's "healthy", even though no one asked him about it. That guy made a career at Iowa of making things more difficult than they needed to be. Even during pre & post game Q&A with Dolphin, Dolphin would serve up softballs and Lick would pass. Oh well, he'll get a decent buyout and serve out the remainder of his career as a mid-major assistant.

This aint popular, but I think he stays, gets the ball rolling a bit next year, and we are in the NCAA's with Lick at the helm in 2012.

I honestly don't have a fight it his one. I have no idea what's going to happen.
I'm just curious to see how far the numbers get skewed one way.

I followed the rules and voted what I think happens, not what I want. I said I think he is gone, now not necessarily fired, but gone. I want to give him next year at the least.

If I was going to get a 2.5 million dollar buyout in the event I got fired, I'd be pretty stubborn about it too.

Not what you said earlier...:D:D

Touche.
I supposed I should have clarified. I don't "know" what will happen... but that I "think" he'll stay.
That said, my confidence in that is as low as a level can be. I honestly don't know what'll happen. Then again, who does? Does Barta even know?

If I was going to get a 2.5 million dollar buyout in the event I got fired, I'd be pretty stubborn about it too.

Lick would have gotten a helluva buyout regardless. His choice was:

A) Save face and resign and take a nice going away present
B) Be stubborn as hell and essentially give a big F.U. to your AD on the way out the door and take a going away present.

I honestly cringe at the idea of him being back.....like it seriously disgusts me to think I have gotten this excited only for him to be back in Iowa City......

I agree, I have no idea and don't think many do..

For the record voted with what I think I see happening and that Lick is gone..

It's 2.4 million dollars; what would you do? If he's being stubborn, I say let him be stubborn.

I've been right there with you all year Shada. Have to agree the situation has gone beyond being reconcilable.

In many ways it really is a shame. I think Lick is a good person and having lost a job in the past, although not being paid at his level, I know the pain it causes. Granted the buyout helps but it still hurts.

The worst part of this is where do the assistants sit in this situation? They don't make the big bucks nor do they have large buyout clauses, at least I've never heard of any with assistants. I feel sorry for them as their jobs also hang in the balance with this situation.

Actually if you're a Hawk fan you should have an opinion
Good point, and as I noted above, I think he'll come back. But my faith in that opinion is not strong.

If the question was, do you want him back, then I would ok in saying give him another year... but that's not what I was asking.

And I don't know what Barta is going to do. I was just going to use this poll as a general gauge on the Hawkeyenation crowd.

The declining attendance, all-time loss mark, player defections ---- there's just no good vibes around the program. The only ray of light was an 'okay' recruiting class this year. There's also something quirky/coincidental about major facilties changes and coaching overhauls. Lute was the man that got CHA built then split. Here in Oregon, they're building an entire new arena at UO, and are firing Ernie Kent. Iowa is building a new practice facility and wing onto CHA --- I think the time is right to start anew again.

I like Lickliter in that he was the opposite of Alford, in other words, he wasn't a smug *****. But he wasn't the man to get the job done at Iowa.
