Let's mix up some Kool Aid! (data pointing to Iowa success)

I'm chill. Its all good. :)

Early in the season Stanley had a bad case of haven't-taken-a-snap-in-a-live game-itis. Much of that has already been taken care of over the course of last season.
26 TDs and 6 INT I'll take that any year.
2nd year as starter, however, doesn't bode well for Iowa QB development.
We'll see if 2nd year OC hinders or helps the cause.

Can someone be in the middle of this debate and just like how the schedule sets up?

****sidenote**** I realize it is 2018 and you have to choose sides, but I refuse, too.:)

I wasn't trying to be critical of Stanley, just answering the question about his fumbles. Yes, I'll take the 26 TDs.

I think the 2nd year QB thing is one of those trends that really isn't a trend.

2005 - 2nd year Tate - Offensive numbers up from 2004 - Defense wasn't nearly as good early on. - Replaced defensive line.

2010 - 2nd year Stanzi - Offensive numbers were up a bit from 2009 - Defense wasn't nearly as good late in the season. Had to replace linebackers + attrition at linebacker.

2012 - 2nd year Vandenberg - Greg Davis' implements passing schemes nobody understands.

2014 - 2nd year Rudock - Defense wasn't as good as 2013 - I think this was another linebacker replacement year.

2016 - 2nd year Beathard - Vandeberg injured early in season. Beathard was coming back from injury.

2nd year QB slump = Correlation not causation. Unfortunately you have personnel turnover at linebacker and Mends already out.

Time to dump some Everclear in that Kool-aid. The way I see it the passing game can only improve. No matter who it is; Cooper, ISM, Smith, once that light-bulb moment hits them and they and Nate find their rhythm look out. The tOSU and Nebby games weren't anomalies. Unleash the beast baby.

That's my thought as well. Nobody respects our passing game, and for good reason!! Respect is earned. So go get some.

The number of interceptions seems to be somewhat related to the number of sacks:

Mostly a 2-pt correlation I know, but the Kool-Aid is sooooo good. Do you think sacks are going down this year? Me neither. Do we have some ball-hawks? I think we do.
Oh man that R-Squared though

2nd year never bodes well for many QBs at any level. DCs have a year's worth of film to work with to try and take away what they do well.

Stanley had 26 touchdowns with two freshman offensive tackles protecting him. Certainly losing Daniels and Welch hurts, but you are not replacing them with freshmen. You are replacing them with guys that have been in the program...and if a redshirt Freshman plays...well, he's beaten out the upper classman and must be special.

The other thing is that Easley, ISM, Smith, and others have another year after showing some promise. I also expect one of the freshman to play at WR. We are starting to recruit better and my bet is Tyrone Tracy makes some waves.

I will also add...the entire offense has another year to learn the system and react not think. They will play faster in my opinion. I honestly think the big thing is keeping the o-line healthy. Replacing two senior starters with freshman and having a first year QB is a tall task for any offense. This go around...if we can stay healthy on the oline...we are going to protect much better. Honestly, I think the offense is going to be very, very good. Let's face it, if your tackles are facing two future NFL defensive ends every day in practice...that's going to speed your learning curve pretty fast.

Over reaction was pretty good today. Quite entertaining.

It's not like he's running a country and when talking about a passion for women he says you have to grab them by the cootchie.
Sad day when a college football coordinator is held to a higher standard then the president of the United States.
Maybe this is why I have a hard time finding intelligent conversation out there.
If any of these coaches did or said a fraction of what the commander-in-chief has, they would be run out of town.

It's been over two days and nobody has risen to take your political talk bait. That didn't used to happen around here. Well done folks.

I wasn't baiting. I don't follow politics at all, so a 4th grader could win an argument with me there.
I was simply talking about the bizarre way people apply their standards and or beliefs.

More Kool-Aid:
1) BF was TE coach at the Patriots when the 2 TEs were a main focus of the offense. Now that the team knows the offensive “jargon” we play to our strengths and have the TEs a real focus after years of de-emphasizing them under Davis.
2) A Nelson is one more year bigger, faster and stronger. Couple him with AJE on the other side and pass-rushing big men inside means we get to the QB more than anytime since Matt Roth era teams.
3) both punting and punt returns have to be better than last year.
4) future 1st round picks Wirfs and Jackson at OT are stronger and more experienced than last year.
5) Stanley is starting to understand that DEs often do not bring him down upon first contact which will really help on broken plays. He will keep his eyes downfield and also pull it down and run more often.
6) Amani Hooker plays on our team! Future all-conference Safety, IMHO.

I'm more comfortable with the interior d than I was. Turns out that while a few lbs light, some of those guys are tough as nails and have been since HS.
I'm loving the idea of a 425 in certain games. With everything we have and have coming in (provided one of them can be brought up to speed quickly), that is a real possibility. It could lessen the load on backers, which actually look pretty solid.
Just the diversity of what we can do in that side of the ball excites me like a kid on Christmas morning.
I think we are much closer to being solid on wr then in the past. A few have shown flashes, and we haven't really seen them all. I think that group has been working their butts off and need to continue to, but I think we might be further along then we have seen. (Hopefully!!!) They need to get in sync with Nate.
The line really needs to gel and get more cohesive and build depth.
Te, I don't think to many are worried about.
Little surprised IKM's name didn't stick out a little more, but I suspect they will be fine (if the line can gel). Depth is a thing and someone has the opportunity to really step up this summer and fall, and will need to!!!
Overall, I started at being very concerned about 4 areas, now I'm slightly concerned about 2- 2 1/2 of them.
Great progress!!!! Go Hawks
