Let's hear it for Ken O'Keefe

KOK has dialed up a masterpiece, proving once again that he is a brilliant OC and an essential ingredient in Iowa's recipe for football excellence.
That bubble screen call for #7 Marvin McNutt was fantastic.
 




Maybe he opened up the playbook. Wasn't his son the lawyer from Evanston going to the game.
 




O'Keefe's playcalling was stellar as usual today. What has me worried is when he dials up plays like the long TD pass to McNutt, he doesn't run enough clock and the defense gets exposed. The offense looked stellar in those weather conditions and if the o-line makes its usual leaps in growth in the first month of the season and we can dodge key injuries, this offense is going to be good.

I just want to quash any rumors about someone passing out during the game. I did not pass out, I had been working on an average of 3 hours of sleep a night because of work and HappyChef made me crush brews until 2:30, then I was back up at 6 to get out to our spot and someone forced a bunch of Jameson down my gullet so I had to rest my eyes for a couple of minutes, so I missed the halftime show and 2 minutes of game time.
 


Anytime you can score IMO is good...regardless of whether the defense has to go back on the field. I would rather score quickly and get the 7 points than take our time going down the field and possibly getting a penalty killing drive, or someone drops a pass, or a fumble, whatever. Yes, it is nice to run the clock with long drives but it is also very very nice to know that they can strike quickly.
 


It wasn't a "bubble screen" A bubble screen is one in the center of the field. That was our very own Jail Break screen.

I was completely ready to entertain this thread with a psychopathic anti-KOK tirade replete with Hello Kitty costumes, black lipstick, diphallic terata, Billy Jack, and dead squirrels. I realized, though, that the game was called well enough. Negatives included a few dropped passes and a turnover by Coker; those really weren't O'Keefe's fault.

Those dropped passes were totally KOK's fault. So was the injury to McCall, and all of those damn fumbles. You obviously do not understand the power of the dark side.

Now get with the Hello Kitty costumes, etc. - as is deserved...


Seriously, though, I thought KOK did a very nice job. Of course, this was Tenn Tech, so...
 


hmm, bubble screen would go to the slot with the se crashing his defender. this jailbreak screen is the opposite, and allows the line to get down in front of the se as well. jailbreak is like a stay pattern, atleast the one ran on the edge to McNutt for to td was.

Agreed. I'd much rather start with the premise that we "can" score quickly and often versus we "can" rest our defense with long drives that end in FGs or merely backing the opponent deep in its own end.

KOK is fine. He and staff always have been. It's execution and/or lack of experience that has hurt in the past.

Speaking of which, while this team is definitely "green"--and no, I don't mean "eco-conscious"--I now understand what DiNardo and Griffith saw during preview show about incoming/young talent being better than they've ever seen at IOWA. There are some youngsters on this team that will absolutely shine in the coming seasons.
