Let's go back in time...

This is only the second time Iowa has been at least twelve games over five-hundred in the B1G in four consecutive seasons since Lute left. Surprisingly, Davis was fourteen games over five-hundred in his last four seasons. Not even in his first four seasons was Davis at least twelve games over five-hundred. Ralph was twenty games over five-hundred in his last four seasons & the B1G was only playing fourteen games. Of course, being fourteen over in one season sure helps a lot.

Just copied and pasted below. Ya know, looking at it, its kind of "regular". Of course, that FF notation is nice, but doesn't it look like an overall record that would have folks screaming about the "next level"?

sorry, notations at end wouldnt fit, but there was FF notation in 79-80 season. My point being that looking at WL records, or trying to spot a trend is pointless.

Happy where hes built it, now we will find out how high he can take it. Lets face it, that senior class had a ceiling and they met it. Im interested to see where it can go

Your chart is pointless. It doesn't break down the conference records. Further in '83 Iowa made the Sweet 16. Your chart shows nothing without any type of narrative or comparison. A junior high school student would do better. Your chart is a D without any type of analysis & discussion. What are you trying to show? Your chart does show that Iowa made the NCAA tournament in five consecutive years something that has happened in thirty-five years. WTF!

Yeah, maybe a junior high schooler could do better at copying and pasting-WTF do I know about computers? I am older than most suburban dirt!

Maybe I assumed readers would have recognized the dates and known that this was Lute Olson's record. Guess I need to provide a detailed legend and probably use spell check too.

But the point I am making is this: Many Hawk Eye fans have unrealistic expectations. We idolize the days of Lute Olson and Ralph Miller, and many still remember Tom Davis with perhaps more fondness than he might deserve. But the records demonstrate we have been a good team, but not a great team. We have enjoyed brief moments. But we just quite havent been able to grab the brass ring. Even the 69-70 team had its faults, though I would still maintain that is the best Iowa team I have ever seen-and I am old enough to have seen them!

So, perhaps we need to lay off Fran, give him time to do what he is paid to do. I think we might be surprised. Not next year, perhaps, but given time, we might see one of the rare final four teams.

Good lord, if I had to work for someone that has the expectations that many Iowa fans have, I would have tried for SS disability 20 years ago...........

Interesting. Do you want the chick that is an 8 who is smart and funny? Or do you want the 10 who has a rockin bod, dumb as a box of rocks, but she is fun to be with. Do you want Virginia's style of play or ISU's? Fast tempo is sexier more entertaining, I enjoy slow tempo basketball if the execution is at high level. 'I guess I am a truly don't care' guy.

When it comes to style of play, I think you need to be very versatile. My concern with being an uptempo offensively minded team is that I think it's much easier for a team to slow you down than it is speed for you to speed the good teams up.

Wisconsin is of course the perfect example and I can't wait for the ISU/Virginia matchup. I like VA a lot in that matchup and not because I'm a hawk fan but if you look at a team like West Virginia, the clones lost both their games against them. shark money came in on ISU early so that probably shows what I know.

Tying this back to Fran... Happy with his results and like the idea of uptempo but we need complete players. Couldn't have been easy recruiting guys to come to Iowa when he first started. Hope it becomes easier now that he can look at guys and tell them they should expect to play in the NCAA tournament and win games in the tourney and battle for regular season B1G championships. Hopefully being able to sell guys on the other recruits and talent on the roster will also make Iowa more appealing as well.

Its a continuous circle... Better results to better recruits to better results to better recruits

He's taken Iowa back up to our historical sustained ceiling.

Ceiling =
Being competitive and not a joke
Finishing in top 33% of the conference
Ranked in top 25 for most of a season
Occasional national mention and exposure
NCAA's in yearly conversation (not if, but what seed)
A win in the NCAAs on a consistent basis

This is Iowa's sustained zenith. We may spurt once in a great while to elite-8 status, but that's not the norm. Not a bad thing at all if you compare it to current-day NU, Illinois, Minnesota, Rutgers, PSU.

If you *don't* think this is Iowa's ceiling, please, enlighten me what is.
