Same here and his off script and running ability is something that can traded off for his lack of height when compared to some of the other guys in the room in my opinion.I've read that Heck is Drew Tate 2.0. Good arm, accurate, small, can create, play off script, and is pretty cocky.
I get more of a (former Georgia QB) Stetson Bennett-type vibe with him. Both were cocky, but Tate was probably a little more ego driven and not always on the same page with the coaches. Bennett was tough as nails and more of a natural leader.I've read that Heck is Drew Tate 2.0. Good arm, accurate, small, can create, play off script, and is pretty cocky.

One of Iowas greatest weaknesses over the last decade was the ability of the QB to turn that no gain or blown up play into a 3nd and 7 or 8 as opposed to a 3rd and 15+. Stanley and everyone after with the exception of the last few years rarely pulled the ball down to get a short gain or extended the play to throw it out of bounds on a consistent basis.
Part of that was play calling as well, as Brian didn't do a good job of moving the pocket to help compensate for the weaknesses in some of the younger OL guys. Instead it was drop backs with little recognition of blitzes so the QBs would get hammered (especially Petras). What was weird is none of those guys were incapable of scrambling they just hardly did it. Stanzi was no speed demon but if you go and watch those games he could scramble and get us out of those 3rd and really long plays.
I think Petras was not a bad recruit. His first game he did better than a lot of guys and he won some big games for us but he lacked consistency and there seemed to be a mental issue.2019-2024
The recruitment and development of quarterbacks across the board was flat out awful.
There's a quarterback named Jimmy Sullivan on the Iowa roster.Sullivan? What year is the OP from?
I think both guys have potential but I think Hecklinski brings a different skill set with his run game that opens up the playbook a little more. While Brown can run from what I understand I don't think he quite as dynamic. I would like to see Lester roll the QBs out a little more to create some easy pitch and catch passes but also utilize the play action more to take some shots down the field. Iowa did a poor job at taking shots down the field this year when at times they showed some promise. I am hoping the bowl game goes back to it.I am excited about Helliski and believe he has the tools to be a productive QB if given the keys to the car. Injury is always a concern with a smaller QB, but injuries can happen to anyone. I am not a fan of Brown. Its not fair to judge him on the limited play we saw of him this year, but if he executes a simple screen pass, we beat Indiana. He looked like Petras to me. That and the fact that he seemed to be passed on the depth chart by Hellinski mid-season suggests to me that he doesn't have it.
I think both of these guys stick. Even for the guy who doesn't win the starting job, where is he going to go where he has a better chance of seeing the field? No one is going to hand either of those guys a starting gig, or even the #2.
I hope they give a strong look at the incoming kid from Utah as a possible back-up. There is a lot to like about that kid's game.
