Less Jok is more

I've been saying it since he returned. He just simply cannot handle playing the minutes Fran is playing him right now. Thought it would likely cost of a winnable game. I honestly think Fran is more concerned about getting him 1st Team B1G, which is kind of sad.

5 more TOs tonight. Most of his missed shots were in essence TOs driving out of control. No defense.

I like the kid and he's had a great career for us, but he just doesn't have it right now.

Our two most talented players Cook and Jok are guys with me first attitudes and want nothing to do with the defensive end of the floor.

Jok isn't the same player since the back issue surfaced and it's amazing that this staff can't see it. Jok also apparently doesn't care about playing/improving his Defensive skill set/game at all.

The problem is when he is on the floor the defense has to account for him - which gets other people open.

So, I do agree in some ways.. but its kind of a catch 22.

Our offense also goes stagnant at times when everybody is looking to get him the ball. We play good free flowing offense in the two games withou him. We should have thrown it into Cook way more tonight.

It'll be interesting how the team plays next year. I think Fran is smart enough to realize that he won't keep his job much longer if he continues to let guys slack off on the defensive end.

It doesn't matter anymore this year. Peter is going to play. I completely agree tho and just said in another thread that this team will be way better off without Peter next year. He isn't a team player. I too love Pete and have nothing bad to say about his career but he isn't helping THIS team at all. Keep your heads up everyone the future will be a lot of fun. This year is just blah.

If Jok & Cook gave the same effort on D that they give on O, this team probably would have been in the NCAA tourney.

Yeah and even the NIT is in jeopardy due to yet another last month debacle. It's the damnedest thing I've ever seen and the only way you can explain it is coaching and/or training and conditioning.

Really hate to write this because I've been a big fan of his for awhile, but Jok is not helping the team right now. He's a turnover machine, his defense is suspect, and he is not a scoring threat at present. Maybe he's still hurt, maybe his confidence is shaken, maybe he's not meshing with the other guys - don't know, but he needs to be playing less right now. Very doubtful Fran will do so, though.

I think part of the problem is teams are making it 100% of their preparation to stop Jok, so if I was coach I would start the game without Jok to mix it up and cause defensive confusion for the opponents when Jok is not on the floor at the beginning of the game. Let him play the same min but bring him off the bench at the right time. In addition, that would give the other players more freedom early on to get the offense going.

Jok needs to stop pressing and just play and get his shots in the rhythm of the offense. He lost the ball 3 times when dribbling, I think a couple times trying to go between the legs, etc.. They need to pass the ball or he needs to get it to a point guard and start the offense.

When Iowa relies on Jok as a crutch, it is bad for Iowa. They have enough points on the court. That is not the issue. Just run the damn offense. Where Iowa loses, is rebounding and defense which will get better in years to come.
