Leaving Kentucky for Minnesota??

I have seen a lot of posts stating that the Iowa job is not a good job and that we have no chance of getting a big name coach from a major conference. Remember when Tubby Smith left Kentucky for the Minnesota job? This was a step down for Tubby, but he did it for a change in scenery and he was sick of not being appreciated by the Kentucky media and fans. Barta may be able to find a coach in a similar situation. There may be a contract dispute or maybe a coach just needs a change of scenery or wants a raise that is not going to happen. Barta has stated that money is not going to be an issue and we know his job is on the line here with this hire. We do not have to be resigned to say that we can only get a mid-major level coach or an assistant at a BCS school. Iowa is very down right now, but the next coach can be seen as a major hero and would get tons of props from everyone for coming in here and turning it around. Lets not sell ourselves short.

Tubby was forced out of KU - he didnt leave because he wanted a "change of scenery". Plus the MN job is much better than Iowa. Tubby can recruit the hell out of Minneapolis, coaching at Iowa doesnt offer that same luxury

So who is in a contract dispute right now? Which coach needs a change of scenery? The Tubby situation at Kentucky really can only happen at a school like Kentucky where winning 1 national title and winning 20 games every year is considered not good enough and I don't think Coach Cal is coming to Iowa...

Do you know all the coaching situations right now at the 6 big BCS conferences? Jon has mentioned that Paul Hewitt of Georgia Tech may be looking for a change as he has not been appreciated by the fan base as of late. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes at the other schools. No, coach Cal is not coming to Iowa, but there may be a HC like J.Pastner of Memphis who is making less than 1 million dollars a year who would take a big pay increase to take the rebuilding job at Iowa.

Of all the coaching jobs available in major conferences.... we may be the least attractive to coaches looking to make a change.

Depaul is a program that is arguable. Big East/Big Ten, Depaul has one big advantage.... they have much better recruits coming from the Chicago area.

Bogus argument - if this was such an advantage, why has DePaul sucked for so long? The whole Big Ten recruits Chicago, along with Marquette and ND and many others.

ESPN just discussed all the open jobs with Rece, Hubert and Digger. Big surprise, Digger focused on DePaul, Oregon, and Seton Hall. Nobody made a single mention of Iowa. He even went so far as to call DePaul a "sleeping giant". If being in the Chicago area makes you a "sleeping giant" then explain to me why Northwestern is one of the only teams to NEVER make the NCAA tournament! Iowa deserves at least a mention.

I remember when Depaul was good. I'm mean really good. Coach Ray Meyer had them rocking. They had a good 10 year run in the mid 70's to the mid 80's. Made a Final Four, Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteeen. That was a heck of a team in the Late 70's early 80's. Mark Acquire, Tyron Corbin and Terry Cummings.

That resume sound familiar to anyone? We have our share of great history.

If we hire a "name" coach, the chances are good he is on the outs with his current team, whether known or not.

First, Tubby wasn't forced out of KS, He was the coach at UK, (Ky).
Second, why is the perception that MN is a better gig than IA? They play in a barn, in an urban campus riddled with crime, in one of coldest cities in the country. A look at our fball and wrestling programs compared to MN would indicate otherwise.

Have to think that Iowa ticked upward with the development of the player/practice complex. That might be enough to make the Iowa job more appealing than Minnesota.

Urban campus riddled with crime? are you being serious?

Sorry i had the abbreviation wrong. My bad. I will try to be a better human being going forward

Your argument is terrible. Comparing the wrestling and football programs doesnt matter. We are talking about bball and if you think it is easier to recruit to IC than it is to recruit to Minneapolis you need professional help. Minnesota's high school bball talent is far superior to Iowa's, and it isnt even close

So you do like Brommer and Tucker. And we're not talking about high school, we're talking recruiting TO the school. Old enough to remember Raveling's recruits, or Lute's?
