Man could you imagine being an Ole Miss fan? The different angles to this are what I find so interesting. The over arching one hanging over it all is how the powers that be are complaining about the timing of when the portal & signing day hits. Well change your coaches accordingly then. Nobody makes you fire or hire coaches when you do either. Schools do that to themselves.
For Lane he and his AGENT are who've helped tangle the weave he's got going on. He's expected to be hired by LSU today. But all the drama to it is he wants to still be able to coach Ole Miss the rest of this yr in the playoffs too. I don't know what planet he thinks he's on but you can't have one foot in on two different HC jobs in D1 football. Let alone two of em that are in the same blood thirsty conference that the SEC is. It sounds like to Ole Miss it's a complete non starter as it should be. If you want to leave they can't force you to stay but come on. You can't expect them to let you stay and coach kids that you'll actively be trying to get to follow you to LSU along with the recruits etc.
It gets even more in the weeds with how it's been reported and opinionated on. The ESPN folks Herbie and Saban (with whom share the same agent Jimmy Sexton) have said that he should be allowed to do both under the guise of it's best for the players... Well first of all when has Kiffin during all this ever done anything that's player first? He and his agent are who's been shopping him all this time to FL and LSU to get himself a raise if he had stayed at Ole Miss. That part of the distraction was all him he didn't have to do all that he coulda announced at any point he was staying at Ole Miss he's under contract and he wouldn't be doing ANYTHING until after the season. But that's not what he's done.
For Saban to have that take is ironic and hypocritical cause back when Kiffin was his OC he fired him during this time of yr between the 12th game and the playoff game for when Kiffin was taking the FAU job. He didn't want him around for the same obvious reasons. And think about that Kiffin was taking the FAU job not LSU and yet still had that reaction. So Saban when giving his take on this now has ominously ignored having done that and not addressed it at all... And neither Herbie or anyone else on ESPN bring it up they just nod their heads and agree with everything he says. It's pretty wild.
To me it all revolves back to how Kiffin, Saban, Herbie and god knows who all else involved are represented by the same agent Jimmy Sexton. They've made this the messy fiasco it's became where nobody is sincere and everyone just wants to make the absolute top dollar they can get while eating their cake too at the schools and players expense. So when kids decide to flex and use their bargaining power by making themselves FAs with the portal it's pretty tough to blame them. Everyone at all levels of this do the same thing
