Iowa women’s basketball has landed Georgia Tech point-guard transfer Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright. Wright arrives in Iowa City after starting 12 contests last season as a freshman, averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game on a Georgia Tech team that reached the NCAA Tournament.

The 5-foot-5 guard hails from Atlanta and was originally ranked as ESPN’s No. 49 overall prospect in the 2024 class — interestingly sandwiched between Ava Heiden (No. 42 overall) and Aaliyah Guyton (No. 58 overall). Guyton transferred to Illinois on April 12 and created Iowa’s point-guard void Wright is hoping to fill.

Her April 23 commitment comes just five days after Jensen hired former Yellow Jackets assistant LaSondra Barrett to replace the departed Raina Harmon.

(Comment: So new coach Barrett essentially brought Wright along with her!)

So what's the verdict? Is she better than Guyton?

Well, she was ranked slightly higher, and she played more minutes last year for a team that was comparable to Iowa.

She scored roughly the same as Guyton on a per minute basis, but she had 50% more assists per minute, and she had fewer than half as many TOs per minute. Wright also had more than 2x as many steals on a per minute basis.

They shot roughly the same from the field, but Guyton was better from 3FG (37% vs. 32%). However, Wright was significantly better from the FT line (89% vs. 67%), which is a pretty good indicator of future potential as a shooter.

Also, GT fans seem bummed about losing Wright, and Iowa fans seem pretty meh about losing Guyton.

Seems like an upgrade.

In their podcast on Hawkfanatic both Howe and Dochterman agreed Chit-Chat is an upgrade. They both have viewed tape of her time at Geo Tech, and commented she was always the quickest player on the floor.
Guyton: 33 assists to 49 turnovers. 0.67 assist to turnover ratio. She had a total of 10 steals.
Wright: 86 assists to 39 turnovers. 2.20 assists to turnover ratio. She had a total of 33 steals.

Pretty big get I'd say. Kinda had to get a PG considering we really didn't have one.
Sounds like she played more and more as the yr went on and was starting games down the stretch. Which is a pretty big deal for a freshmen. Wish she was closer to 5'10 then 5'4 like she's listed at but hey I like her potential. Has a high motor and is quick as a hickup. It sounds like Jan is going to put a lot on her plate day 1 so hope she's up to it.

Lineup will be interesting. Chit-Chat has 3 yrs to play. I suspect Deal will start day 1 so there's your back court with Heiden Stuelke and Kylie probably rounding out the starters. 2 seniors 2 sophs and freshman. With McCabe, Stemlow, Mallegni, Houston and Hayes all battling it out for what their roles will be.

We certainly should have a competitive team this season

Solid experience coming back, and a strong incoming class

Gonna miss Syd and Lucy

Plus Addie is the Real Deal

Wish the center from Alaska was incoming this season

Yeah Hayes is with this yrs class too she'll very likely be Heidens backup with no O'Grady and Stuelke being at the 4. So really young at the 5 spot but all the potential in the world.

Addie is gonna have free reign to make this her team. It'll be interesting how good she is right out of the gates. Needless to say the hype for her is through the roof. I'm just scared of putting too much on a freshmans plate out of necessity. If she is that good and takes the bull by the horns like Clark did that's just fantastic. We'll see soon enough.

Are the coaches sticking with that idea of Stuelke playing the 4? I don't know about that. I know Syd and Lucy are gone but maybe Iowa should just stick the 4-guard lineup.

Ok fine, Stuelke and Heiden both need to be starting but when one of them is sitting, for fouls or for rest time, then Iowa should play a 4-guard lineup when only one of them is on the court.

Yeah Jan had said during sit down interview thing she did that Stuelke will be back at the 4 with Heiden being the 5. They'd like to maintain that.

If Stuelke keeps getting in foul trouble like she does I think they would go small more often. I can see lineups of McCabe, Deal, Stremlow, Mallegni and Heiden out there for a stretch. That's not a big lineup at all.
