Lachance to Vanderbilt....

Riley himself just tweeted:

@riley_lachance3:
"Just made the best decision of my life officially committed to Vanderbilt University!! So excited to be apart of the Commodore family!!!"

I think he just shocked about everyone in recruiting circles?

Honestly, Iowa probably assembles the worst class in the conference. Fran is smart, hopefully he makes staff changes. You can't recruit like this, and compete for conference titles, or even NCAA berths.

Take a breath, unless you are being sarcastic. Im off to bed and will probably wake up tomorrow and never think of Riley LaChance again in my life..unless I watch Stand By Me sometime soon

What do you disagree with? Look at the remaining options, this kind of recruiting effort cannot be repeated. Ellingson is a stretch to play at the Big Ten level, and it's starting to look like he will be joined by a few of similar recruiting profiles.

I understand many people pretend being optimistic is the same as being a good fan, so go ahead and call me crazy in order to pat yourself on the back, but this is shaping up to be a terrible class.

I trust Fran. I have seen him take a bunch of heartbroken Iowa fans and given them life again after 3 years. I will not be negative about anything Iowa Basketball right now..forgive my optimism but I haven't had a reason to be this excited about the program for around 10 years now..oh no Ty Ulis and Riley LaChance went elsewhere..who cares right now. Relax and deal with it. Brady Ellingson could be the next Aaron White

People that want to see some sustained success. You are aware that we don't get to extend Marble, right? Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program, and right now, Fran is striking out in 2014.

Iowa has one player signed, and he is, to be gracious, a role player at best. He isn't the next White, but he might be the next Bawinkel.

Next year is going to be a lot of fun, I'd prefer to have more than one fun year every decade.

We have a lot of young talent a pg in this next class is not a necessity we are strong with MG and sapp there are still some good frontline players out there let's see what develops

hawkstrat is the only one making sense here.

ellingson is a bench player -- a one dimensional shooter.

success with one outlier in white doesn't lead to the extrapolation that every iffy recruit "could be the next aaron white." sure. clemmons is ok. ingram couldn't make it in the big ten. oglesby is a solid B10 bench guy, but has yet to put it together. gabe is still potential.

go back and read the 2014 recruiting thread from start to finish. it's a story of fran going after big fish, missing, then going after secondary recruits, missing, and now it's october and the hawks have bupkis. two trips to the nit don't draw top 100 kids outside of iowa. trying to compete with schools in more diverse or more urban locations for city kids (yes, african american) is tough.

this is still a deep good team through white's senior year. but, fran probably needs two ncaa trips in a row to make this program attractive to top 100 out-of-state recruits -- or maybe a change in some of the staff.

We do trust in Fran. The problem is the guy he really wanted he missed on (Ulis). The next guy he wanted (LeChance) he has missed on. The fans are just saying "now what?" Is getting your 3rd and 4th choices really good enough to compete in the BIG? I think that is a logical and fair question.

yes, fran missed on ulis, but other pgs were offered, and the hawks missed on those as well -- nairn, austin, mcintosh. lachance was option 4. now it's peripatetic juco pg trey dickerson.

Could this be that we haven't made the tournament yet and have also been advertised as being one of the deepest teams out there? If I'm not looking ahead and seeing what we will do this year, I'm seeing a team that will return 8 regular rotation guys in 2014, and hasn't made the tourney as of yet. That's turning out to be a hard sell, especially with a poor in-state recruiting crop for 2014.

Vanderbilt is in the same boat, I doubt LaChance sees much playing time before he is a sophomore or he redshirts his freshman season. Fran has plenty to sell recruits, a new practice facility and a program on the rise in a premier basketball conference.

Iowa is still not a 'glamour' destination. The next two years will be good ones. This is not a make or break recruiting class. Yes ... it would be nice to have gotten a 4 or 5 star guard, but the reality is that the Hawks are good for the next few years at that position. Hey Fran .. go out and get a good big man or two .. or even a project big man that you can redshirt and he can have 4 solid years with the point guard you get next year.

So relax .. enjoy the ride this year. It's going to be fun!!

GO HAWKS!!!

This is a bigger problem for us than perhaps anything right now. The state is just down on talent right now which sucks because I think Fran can finally start locking some of the in state kids up.

Somebody will surprise in the next few classes but it doesn't look like there are any kids threatening the top 100 from iowa for several years.
