Kyle Meyer

Looks like '12 big man Kyle Meyer is down to Iowa and Clemson. He plays for a heck of an AAU team, but I would still like to see more BCS offers.

Side note- Clemson is coached by Brownell who IA was rumored to look at while he was at Wright State last season. Always interesting to see how some of the former mid major coaches target the same guys when they go to the next level.

Here is a clip of his AAU team, Meyer has a few highlights.

I was watching Clemson last nite, and their roster seems to be full of big athletes. Not sure if they lose them after the year to graduation or not,but judging by the kind of players they have on their roster,if they want Meyer....I want Meyer at Iowa.
Do not care about more BCS offers. Melsahn's only BCS offer was Iowa. The 2012 HS class in the state of Georgia is tremendous....there are 14 Georgia kids in Rivals top 150 for that year....and Meyer is not one of them, nor are a couple of other kids we are looking at on that Atlanta Celtics team...a couple of them are in the top 150 tho also. So, Meyer is playing on one of the high profile AAU programs in the country on a team that is packed with high Div 1 prospects...which usually means some guys on that team, and in Georgia, might be getting overlooked with all the other top high profile prospects.

I hope we can get an early commit from Kyle, and then go to work on some of his AAU teammates, for 2012 and beyond.

I'm not sure I would. We might not have a chance if he did. ;)

Meyer has visited Iowa a couple times now. Must like Iowa enough to make the trip up from Georgia.

agreed, and the last one being our game v. Michigan - unofficial visit = his dime. And his comment about being close to his decision after said game made me think that he would pick Iowa.

Interesting info at the end of the piece about Cully Payne's bro. Does anyone have any info on him? Interesting that Lick offered when he was in 8th grade, but the article says Frans has yet to offer.
Could be one of the best guards in the 2013 class. I know Telep likes his game.

Nice clips. Looks like he would be a great get for 2012. I like his versatility. Seems like he can bang down low and step out and hit the shot. Seems to be what Fran likes from his bigs.

All of those big guys, at least one McDonald's AA, where recruited by Purnell who is now at DePaul. Meyer could be a Basabe type who is talented but kind of buried by being on a really stacked AAU team. I know I have complained about the vanillaness of Fran's targets for the '11 and '12 class, but if he can make the ATL Celtics then I have faith.

As for Payne's brother, I saw him at the elite camp two summers ago and he could throw down easy as an 8th grader which is showing some serious athleticism. I wonder how tall he is supposed to be when it is all said and done. Lick was one of the worst recruiters in the history of the B10, but this Payne kid was pretty hyped at the time (he also got invited to the FL elite camp that summer).

How many guys in '12 will Iowa sign. 4?

Iowa has two more available for this year. If we use them both, then we will have 3 available for 2012-13. If Archie goes away and we add three in the spring(unlikely)then we would only have 2 the next year.

I was wondering if Fran was trying to get Meyer in hopes of also getting his foot in with the Celtics. They have some serious talent coming out of there about almost annually. Get in good with the coach and maybe you can start snagging some big time prospects.

You could be right about that...coaches now days have to "build relationships" with these AAU sleeze balls (not calling ALL of them sleezy, but where there's smoke, there's generalizations)...

We have 4 schollies to give for 2012. Gatens, Brommer, Cartwright, and Archie unless something happens and Archie leaves when he gets his diploma.
