Kyle Meyer

True, but not all projects are created equal.
On Scouts,Woodbury is ranked the #74 player in the country...so yes,he is a project, but one that is considered to have a high ceiling.
Basabe was a project, but is better than expected.
Not an exact science, but if a guy like Meyer is playing alongside top rated big guys against other top rated big guys and holds his own, he probably can play pretty quickly.

Very well put. If memory serves me correctly Acie Earl was considered more of a project thatn Guy Rucker, and Ryan Bowen more of a project that JR Koch and Greg Helmers. Not a knock on any of the players mentioned just an observation.

3 players. All seem similar in talent. Player A comes from a decent AAU team in Iowa. Player B comes from a Ohio. Player C comes from one of the best AAU programs in the entire country.

Who do you think Fran is going to offer? Get a clue man. It's the game of recruiting. All I asked, and it is valid to anyone who actually follows college basketball recruiting, is if Fran is trying to get an in with the Celtics AAU program. If he is, good for him! They have serious talent

You post on here and act like you know what Fran is doing, and his intentions when he offers a kid. You have no idea, I have no idea, all you are doing is guessing......

Does it hurt to make connections? No way, of course not. Yet to say he would offer the kid A before kid B or C is just sheer speculation on your part. You might find it to be the smart thing to do to set up relationships. Yet you have no idea of relationship that are already currently in place. Maybe Sperew, Dillard, or Fran already had a relationship in, so then there is no point to offer to just establish the relationship....

I'm not trying to get into a p!ssing match. I'm not saying I know what happened, and I'm not saying that it isn't a great idea to try to establish as many relationships as possible. The reality is we have no way of knowing......

No I'm not. I posted ASKING a question as it seems likely to be a factor. Other posters seem to agree with him but you are just trying to pick a fight

Weird, I posted my opinion, and think you are the one trying to pick a fight.....;)

You are saying that signing Artchie, Brommer, and Davis was being to stringent ? Looked more like desperation to me.

If you remember, Lick did not offer very many recruits. I distinctly remember how Cody Larsons AAU coach said that before he offered Larson(#90 in the country) a scholly,he sat with him in his living room and basically asked Cody to sell Lick on why he deserved to be a Hawkeye.

Lick was very selective on offering kids, until we were so desperate that he offered juco benchwarmers who must have said the right things bout their worthiness to become Hawks.

It was a strange approach, but I guess it worked on some recruits.

You offer all three. You don't simply offer the one on the best AAU team while watching the other two commit elsewhere. You don't put all your eggs in one basket in the hopes of landing a stud two years down the road. That would be stupid as hell, get a clue man.

Meyer could be playing for the Atlanta Celtics, the Iowa Barnstormers or on a farm somewhere and he would have gotten the offer. The coaches watched him, and they liked what they saw.

Last night on his radio show McCaffery said he’s going to recruit "athletic ability, size and shooting, not necessarily in that order.â€￾

A very innovative approach. According to Lickliter, those types of recruits will not come to Iowa.

He made plenty of offers but always struck out on the ones with any talent. Go back and look at how many point guards went to other schools. Close to a dozen at that position alone. Then add in all the players from Indiana who said thanks but no thanks.

Because they didn't want to play his boring *** style of basketball in an empty arena.

Worst coach in the history of Iowa basketball, no contest. The guy broke all the negative records there were to break while at Iowa.

LICK SUCKS!

Absolutely agree. This is what got Alford in trouble. He wouldn't offer all three...he would hold out forever for his top pick. And then when they went elsewhere, he had to scramble around to find a replacement. By that time, options 2, 3, and sometimes 4 had already committed elsewhere. And we were stuck with either players out of their depth, or players with clearinghouse issues.
