Kravish to Cal

Midwest prep bb players seem to leave the area much more than West Coast/East Coast/and SE/SW area players come to the midwest these days. Stinks. Thought he would stay close to home.

Rats. I thought we had a reasonable shot at Kravish. Landing Fant would make us forget Kravish. I dislike the Hilltoppers ever since they doomed Drake with that last second shot a few years ago in the tourney. I'm not sure how realistic getting Fant is, but what a prize he would be. Ed Horton and Reggie Evans but a better scorer.

Ed Horton was a McDonalds All American and an absolute bruiser. Reggie Evans was the premier power forward in Juco basketball his sophomore year. That is a lofty comparison to make with Fant, I've watched a couple highlight clips and I just don't see it. Fant is much more athletic than Horton, more bounce in his step and a better shooter from outside 5 feet which was basically Horton's range, but I wouldn't go so far as to suggest Fant is all they had and more. I would suggest Fant is more like James Winters than he is Ed Horton or Reggie Evans.

Dang! This bridesmaid routine is really getting old! Well, good luck to the kid and on to the next man.

Not a setback, just the norm for Iowa basketball for last 4-5 years now....nothing new here, different coach same stuff.

Amen, this is not what I was expecting from Fran. The dude can talk the game but he is swinging and missing to much on the recruiting front.

Can't swing if you are not in the batters box.

I like the fact that this staff is going hard after established players. Sometimes, maybe more than most fans can take, you miss but you got to be in the box to get a hit....

It is only October and we have two schollies for the 2011 recruiting class filled. I see our start as pretty impressive....

I thought we had a good shot at Kravish also and we have a definite need at his position. Setbacks like this while disappointing, remind us that we have a long ways to go to re-build this program. Fran has his work cut out for him until he puts a team on the court and kids can see his style of play and some forward momentum in the program. Some kids will buy into a re-building project and some will base their impressions on the current state of the program and the last few years of misery.

It sems way too early in the game to lose hope. We got a nice start on this class already with Oglesby and White. This staff works their tails off on recruiting and while we will miss sometimes on our first targets I feel confident that at the end of the day we will end up with a class of kids that fill our needs and give us building blocks to re-build.

Fran is only 6-7 months into the job.....he is playing catch-up with a lot of these kids.

Iowa is likely bringing in 5 kids in this class....if they can get 3-4 signed in November I would say that is good progress. Iowa will likely sign a player or two in the spring.

It wouldn't be such a stinger if it was Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, etc, that he chose over Iowa but California Berkeley? Unless there is a bigger fish out there that we don't know about yet this is not good news. We all knew it was going to be a long road and we can only hope that Fran and staff can get us over the rough spots and onto the express way.

Awww...I remember when I first started following basketball. They are so cute at this age.

I saw how Dana Altman got a commit today on ESPNU, a two guard out of Oakland,Ca, who is rated #22 overall. He joins Barron, the pg out of Carbondale, that Iowa recruited. The kid made the announcement on ESPNU,and he cited Altman as a reason he picked Oregon over Ga Tech,Washington,Arizona, and Texas. They asked about the brand new arena and the Nike cachet and he admitted it factored into his decision.
Altman,Hoiberg, and Fran are linked at the hip just like Tubby,Beilein and Lick were...all coaches hired at the same time. Who will break out sooner? Altman has the best situation,no doubt. Maybe I underrated him as a recruiter.

Yep, you're right, we should start the firefran.com website right now.

Get a clue, what sense does it make to throw Fran under the bus when he has been at Iowa for 6 whopping months.
Lets look at what Fran has done: Signed a Top 150 recruit, something Iowa hasn't done on a regular basis of late and signed a player that is simply versatile and will be a player that Iowa can count on for contributions from for 4 years, again something Iowa has become unaccustomed too.
There have been zero negative things happen to date since he has been with Iowa (Cougill and Fuller were set in motion long before Fran got there).
Iowa has hosted more big recruits than they ever have in recent memory and have actually been serious contenders for.
On Kravish, lets see, he wants to be a doctor, so why in God's green earth would you go anywhere but Cal? Also, if basketball was the primary driver, Cal made the NCAA tournament last year and should be primed to make it for a second straight year, so they have all the advantage.

Stop throwing the current staff under the bus, they have done nothing to deserve it, if anything they should be praised for stabilizing and having nothing but positive focus on Iowa, something that Iowa fans have become unaccustomed too.
