Koeppel issue

Iowa's slide at the end of there year directly correlates with Josh Keopple being inserted at RG. He was just physically overmatched at that position and the middle of the line was constantly blown up with him there.

My question is, "If Koepple wasn't going to be able to vet things done, wouldn't it have been better to get a younger player some experience? Or are our younger linemen not developing?" Boffeli, Van Slotten, or guys with experience like Orne. It is reasonable that Donnel wouldn't be strong enough yet, but these other guys should be able to start getting some reps.

I mean, if the Hawks are going to lose anyway, shouldn't they be looking to the future?

I doubt the hawks went into any game this year thinking they were going to lose. So you have to put the best players you have out there. We aren't the cubs that can play their farm system half the season to see what they got. Koeppel may have not been the best, but maybe he was the best option. Also what the heck happened to Gettis and MacMillin? Thought they were just dinged a little bit. haven't seen them in weeks.

Gettis got injured insert McMillian. He gets injures but Gettis is back. Gettis gets re-injured 2nd half late against MSU. Koeppel goes in and the O never is the same. Also TE and FB were kept in to help him out all the time making coverage easier. Boeffeli (sp) was injured also in practice- not sure when.

He was constantly blown up and needed help all the time. But from my estimation there were no other options.

So Orne hasn't progressed as hoped? Big body, college experience...really thought he'd be in the mix this year, but heard nothing of him since camp. And we are recruiting a 280 lbs juco guard? Seems we've whiffed on more than a few o-lineman as far as evaluations.

I kind of assumed that Koeppel playing had more to do with rewarding a senior than anything else.

I too, am perplexed by Orne not contributing.

Vandervelde said something about Casey MacMillan last week....first I've heard about Casey since he came from Montanna.

You're on to something here. Miller and Deace both said the same thing yesterday (along with ARob's concussion) that the end of year slide could be as simple as those two turn of events. In hindsight I have to think Cody Hundertmark (next man in at RG) quitting the team was a much bigger loss than anyone thought at the time.
