Knock Off the Political Posts on This Board

As it relates to some political and or religious topics that arise in the podcast, Deace and I do not have a script. May surprise some of you but neither of us knows what's going to come out of our mouths until we say it. So I don't exactly know what he's going to say either in advance. Sometimes things just come out. That will continue on the podcast the way that it always has in the Miller in Deace radio history, Etc. What will also continue is our expectation that politics and religion will not be discussed on the forums. While I freely admit that may seem like and even be a double standard, as the old man said, it is what it is. Podcasts are a different Podcasts are a different format from the message boards. Thanks in advance for your full cooperation

I say let's have less Deace and more snakes if you ask me.

I know. Can you believe these knuckleheads!

It's 2017. Everything, whether it be a bowl game in NYC, the national anthem, the price of season tickets, or back up DTs getting swept up in a manhunt, is political. Trying to stop conversations from containing an element of politics is like trying to stop the ocean's tide from coming in. As someone who has moderated a board, I can tell you that either your enforcement will be ineffective and arbitrary, or you will end up cannibalizing your own traffic.

Yes, definitely a fine line there.

Just think of all the great Mesa AZ Clone posts we could have had over the past couple years. Each one followed by an endless supply of passive aggressive posts, then finally ending with his favorite phrase "Goebbels Would Be Proud!!!!!?

This was my first thought too. A lot of topics would fall into a grey area of kinda political. The National Anthem is one of them. It didn't even cross my mind that that topic was political until it was mentioned on here and threads were taken down. Then I thought "duh, I guess it is political".

Some of dont know what crossed the line. Grandpa's possible political post was Ok but something obviously wasnt. Would be nice to know.

I think more damage is done by snide, condensending,, or flat out rude insulting posts. Discussing FM or KF does that due to differing opinions. Then there are those who massively complain about negative K F posts, but stomp all over anything positive bout FM.

Pretty sure Jon can make up whatever rules he wants given this is his site....
Technically I don't think Jon owns this site anymore. He may have created the site but I thought he explained here or in a podcast that he doesn't own anymore.

There's no way I'm going to be able to moderate or remove negative posts as they pertain to KF or FM. They rule these boards and seem to be what most people enjoy doing. It's a bitchfest pretty much 24-7.

Of course politics cross into sports. And we had good thread on the anthem after Kirk and the players talked about it. People were respectful to each other and it didn't become a partisan debate or mud slinging session. And it's not like the majority of topics on here are connected to politics unless someone chooses to take it there.

There's a line with everything. When it's crossed, it goes. If it continues the poster goes. Simple.

This isn't a debate. And I'm not worried about losing traffic if we keep politics off the board. Quite the contrary. I think most people that visit don't want it on here. There are other places to go an discuss that, a lot of them. Go there if you can't help yourself. It's not happening here.

And like I said, we don't see everything. We do our best. We're busy producing content for the site. Life isn't always fair.

So, if we catch you doing something that someone else has done and run you out, we don't want to hear, "But Johnny was doing it." Just don't do it. If we see it, we'll take action. It's not a new thing.

Sounds like a good idea Rob. As long as sarcasm is OK we will all be fine as it pertains to Hawkeye sports. We all live with the same passion and its why we all are here IMO, definitely politics aside.

Not true. With a little effort one can avoid getting caught up even in an element of politics. Trying to intertwine politics into a sports post, I would argue, takes a conscious decision by the person posting to do so. It would rarely, if ever, be an accident.

Maybe if we knew what the post was the really set it over the line, it might help in the future. I'm pretty sure I was posting in the offending thread, but I'm not sure if it was anything I said.

I don't remember, exactly.

Good rule of thumb: If you think politics are involved in your post, don't post it.
