Kirk's show last night

they showed the replay of the game. DJK made the catch to get the record and Dolph mentioned it quickly----no comment from the head coach. Odd.

I know Derrell isnt perfect, yet hes never got arrested, flunked a class or done anything else to harm the program.

Odd.

I think KF has been hard on DJK because he has know for a very long time that DJK would be in the NFL. I think he is treating him this way so that DJK doesnt end up a Randy Moss or a TO. Coaches are always the hardest on the players they think have the most talent. Not mentioning the record might be KF way of saying hey there are more important things right now, let talk about records he broke when the season is over and hes in the NFL. There is a reason why the Colts love Iowa players and its not just for their skill.

Agree, Ive heard DJK is Moss, OchoCinco and Owens all wrapped into one. That alone is enough not to let him talk to anyone!

It's for the skill TOWNHAWK it's the NFL.

That's not all they like. Did you see them putting their name in the Moss Sweepstakes? No. The Colts value character as much as skill, which is why we have so many guys who have played for them, or at least gotten a shot (Ed Hinkel).

tell that to coach bill belichick. he will never blink to pass on talent for tough football iq players. its not a coincidence that ferentz comes from that coaching tree. try connecting the dots before vomiting a post like that.

Bill Polian (Colts GM) is on record saying they love Iowa players because they are so NFL ready, He said something to the effect of "The Iowa program is run just like one of our organizations" I do believe

Hawkfan - Do you think Ferentz got his aggressive play calling from belichick also? (sarcasm)

I think Ferentz has gone out of his way to not be like Belichick, but I agree football IQ is something they both excel at identifying.

Please the NFL is made up of skilled players. Don't come flying in and tell me that the NFL is made up of Character players. I'm not buying that. Give it a rest. I would recommend for you to connect the dots as well IQ and Character are different. NFL is made up of SKILLED players that get paid millions of dollars to showcase that skill. Not showcase there character or IQ. It's nice when you have all 3 Skill, Character and IQ.

Clark Skilled and has Character.
Angerer Skilled and has Character.
Sanders Skilled and has Character.

If that were the case and character was the only thing than why did Colts cut Mitch King.

Seriously are we debating this. I mean really??

Note: Belichick will also be willing to gamble on a player that has Skill and shady character.

And the Colts organization is full of players that stay down to earth. Manning isn't a guy prone to copping an attitude. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Anthony Gonzalez, Joseph Addai: all guys who let their play do the talking. The majority of Iowa players are like that. Which is a big reason the Colts love Iowa players. They also identify the good ones well.

I would take NFL ready to mean they have the skill set for success in the NFL. Not Character ready..

I mean come on Seriously. NFL is made up of players that have Skill to play in the NFL.

And how many players do the Colts take in that are very skilled, but have poor character? Character is THE thing they look for necessarily. Good character won't get you on board with Indy if you aren't skilled, but bad character will keep you out, even if you're skilled.

And, if you bothered to read carefully, you'd notice that OoTH said it's not JUST for the skill. But that might be asking too much.

The colts have a clear policy against "idiot kickers" who drink. Maybe it has spilled over to the rest of their draft picks and FA signings.

Angerer is playing for the Colts because he has talent, he isn't playing because he has character. It's nice that he has character but not the reason he is playing.

Good for the Colts for seeing those other attributes. In the end it's the players skill to play in the NFL that puts him on the field.

You really aren't grasping this. If he doesn't have good character, he's not in the organization. If he doesn't have skill he isn't, either. You need both to get in with the Colts.

It's like the old addage in baseball: you can't win the pennant in April, but you can definitely lose it. Character alone won't get you in. But talent alone won't, either.

Well no sh*t, Sherlock. But the Colts don't take on "bad seeds". And since OoTH was only referring to the Colts, the rest of the NFL isn't relevant to this discussion.

Edit: I meant to say that character ISN'T the thing they look for. But it is just as big of a factor in deciding who they bring aboard as skill is.

Wouldn't anybody like that spontaneously combust into flames if that were the case?
