Kirk "We have a good football team"

"As far as the injury goes, so far it's positive," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. "They did a fluoro or whatever, but sounds like maybe a bone bruise or kick or that type of thing so we'll keep our fingers crossed on that."

I hope that's correct. Man, it looked worse than that.

I'm really baffled by the O-line strategy. I was at the game so didn't notice who was playing every series, but it appeared to me Iowa was platooning two sets of O-Guards: #74 and #71 to start, then #68 and #73 every other series. And that appeared to continue the entire game. I support rotating in D-linemen, but I don't think I've ever seen a team VOLUNTARILY rotate 2 sets of Guards...ever. Seems like an odd -- if not impossible -- way to develop the 'chemistry' they say they are trying to create on the O-line.

At this point in the season, even with injuries, we shouldn't still be shuffling oline as much as we are. Something is wrong with the oline coaching.

this is not a good team at all, you don't squeak by a BAD BAD BAD Purdue team at home like this on home coming if you got a good team, this is very average .500 type of team at best

Wisconsin must be REALLY bad to lose Illinois. Georgia must be HORRIBLE to lose to South Carolina. Clemson must suck balls to barely survive against North Carolina team. Those must be at best .500 type teams to have a game like that.

I hope so too. But bone bruises can sometimes take longer to heal than high ankle sprains, especially in the lower leg.

It looked painful. But sometimes painful injuries aren't serious, they just hurt a lot at first.

We have a good defense and a good FG unit. Everything else is sweet and sour.
Yes but now our secondary was exposed again. Hankins looked like he aggravated something, Merriweather can't get back on the field, Brents is probably looking at redshirt at this point, and Moss now has to string multiple good games together.

When we got heat on Plummer, particularly in the third quarter, he pissed his pants, and Brohm was in his face on the sideline. But at other times he was picking us apart and we had no answer for David Bell. Thank God we didn't have to worry about Rondale Moore. He can be someone else's headache when he returns, right Bucky?

I see what you did there ....

I always appreciate watching the opposing coach's presser after playing Iowa...and across the conference. Frost's postgame last week after getting thumped by MN was pretty much an admission that the BTen would NOT be changing to adapt to Frost's schemes, but rather he'd be needing to bulk up his teams to compete in the BTen...very humbling and tough for him to admit I think, and furthers my sense he had no idea what he was getting into by coming into a conference that knows how to play defense. Yesterday, Coach Prohm's most interesting answer came to a question after Prohm had explained that his QB had some good stretches, but also some bad stretches when he was focusing too much on the vertical routes and not enough on the underneath routes or just running for yards. When asked "Did you consider putting in the backup QB?", he replied "Absolutely. We always consider putting in backup if someone is not getting the job done." I almost laughed out loud...the contrast between that philosophy and KF's philosophy when it comes to QBs is pretty dramatic! I realize Prohm hasn't done anything meaningful yet at Purdue -- other than stomp Ohio St. last year -- but I suspect he's going to build something long and lasting there.

Yeah maybe.

But it won’t because he considered putting a backup QB in. Easy to “consider” Another it to do.

I think Brohm is a good coach, but I also believe that things have a way of regressing to the mean. Ohio State and Michigan had always won more with talent than with scheme, and when Hayden came along and brought in a new scheme, he got those guys for a while and then they figured it out. Tiller had a great passing scheme, and then everyone figured it out. When Kirk got here, his zone blocking scheme and strength and conditioning program were better than everyone else, and then everyone caught up. And everyone has caught up to Brohm too. And in the meantime, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn St. continue to win with talent, and we hope that terrible coaching makes them less than their talent. The rest of us can beat those guys, yes, but not as many times as they beat us. Throw Frost in there too. He may win some games, but he better figure out in a hurry how to win the close games, because in the middle of the pack that is what defines their season.

For Iowa football, what is realistic is to beat all the bad and mediocre teams on the schedule, beat Iowa State, try to be 500 with Wisconsin, be competitive and win some games against the 3 elites, and every 4 years have s special season when the schedule and stars align. And there is nothing wrong with that.
