Kirk, if the NFL calls...

Just like getting rid of Tom Davis was SUCH a smart idea. And I don't think this year's team is underachieving... if you really think so, you're delusional, they're an average team and that's what their record is. Give KF and crew another year / off season and you'll be fine.

Oh god not the Tom Davis reference again.... uggh

Kirk hasn't done anything (yet) to warrant firing.. however if anyone doesn't think we could find another coach that could go 7-5 ever year your drinking some wacky kool aid.

We cant afford to fire this thief. Hopefully he quits. Ripoff city as of late.

I have never posted this but it's always bothered me. There is no doubt in my mind that Kirk's agent with the blessing of Kirk fanned the NFL rumors, maybe even helped created a few of them to "play" our university for bigger and bigger contracts.

Kirk is certainly a fine human being but i wouldn't be to quick to grant him saint hood.

look at michigan after Carr, or Nebraka after Solich. Fortunately they are relavant nationally to be able to rebound after bad coaching hires.

Iowa can not afford to go after the next "hot-thing" in coaching.

Iowa has proven over the last 30 years that pro/ballanced style offense is successful here.

Our fan base is spoiled. every year wee are rarely blown out, and rarely underdogs in games. in fact, on paper we were underdogs three times in 12 games this year (probably favored in the bowl game too). as a fan isnt that what you want? for our team to compete? Thats what i want, competitive play. We will never be able to "show up & win" we have to compete every saturday, and thats what keeps me coming back, personally I expected 8 wins this year and could still get there.

some fans are not realists. I'm not a homer, but we will be favorites in 9 games again next year. be prepared to be happy with 8/9 wins next year (before bowl). that's where i would place it. oddsmakers will have an overunder on iowa at 8 or 7.5, if everyone returns (reiff etc) i would say we get 8 for sure maybe 9 with the swing game being the nebraska game.

I mean we will start 4-1 at the very least with 5 virtual home games to start the year, if not 5-0! that means 8 wins very likely next year.

Anybody who think KF is still a hot topic in NFL circles is crazy. That ship has sailed. Iowa has given KF everything he could ask for. The last two years he flat out didn't get the job done. Does he deserve a third year I say yes, but a fourth if nothing changes might be hard to swallow.

so an inexperienced 3rd/4th string back (in our coaches eyes) would have won the game today?

I actually place the blame on the OL, vandy had a lot of pressure, and did not open any holes. We knew Nebraska was going too run and they opened up holes. Execution. I saw multiple occasions when we flat out lost leverage on key blocks. And we did not try to challenge the agressive DB's once. That usually leads to long penalties that kill defensive momentum and have them play more tentative/or even more zone coverage instead of the agressive man, which also leads to bigger plays.

basically the way to beat nebraska is through the air. You use your 70% HB as a decoy.

Iowa is a miserable team. However, this is what we have to look forward to for the next several years. Mediocrity. Good players but nowone can coach wirth a darn. Things will never change until the coaching changes.

The NFL chance for KF is LONG gone, and it deserves to be.

Give me a break. If an NFL team actually hired him to be a HEAD coach they should be banned from the league.

He could go back to be a line coach though...

You know this because you are in the inner circle of the NFL? We won a bcs game two years ago! I have news for you, we won't do that every year. I hate losing as much as everyone, but holy crap give it a rest!

Hey Kirk, I thought you didn't spend time on message boards???

How do you go from BCS winner to a team that can't beat Minnesota?

Yes I do, with better talent in the NFL his scheme would ne fine. If the KC job came open with the current ownership yes I think he would. Losing to Minny is bad, but we almost lost to uni the year we won a bcs game, so things happen, ie Michigan losing to App state the same year they beat Fla. in the Cap. One bowl I think. I am not happy with the last two seasons, but I would like to give it a little more time.

^I agree somewhat; I actually think his schemes and "playing the percentages" as he does would work better with NFL talent. I doubt any NFL team wants him anymore, though.

We were running the ball very well in the first quarter. Typical KOK & KF had to have balance so we starting throwing the ball and running reverses on first down. In every game Nebby lost this year they were gashed on inside running plays and QB draws, then eaten alive by play action.

Our offensive philosophy is if it's working, change as quickly as possible.
