Can kick rocks.

What happened to the man who used to be the one voice of balance in college football willing to champion the Hawkeyes against the storm of ESPN's talking heads? Did he sell his soul? Five years ago I feel like Herbstreit couldn't stop praising Ferentz and the Hawks when the pundits took shots at Iowa, now he's assumed that very role himself.

Wow! First Iowa fan this year to talk calmly about rankings. 1, thank you. 2, great TEAM-All in front of them.
Kirk Herbstreit added,
David Basler @BaslerDavid@KirkHerbstreit Hawkeye fan who likes & respects you. Iowa with healthy Beathard a lot of fun. 10-0 still good? https://twitter.com/kirkherbstreit/status/665903588829327360 …

Added with his sarcastic "prediction" before Iowa played Indiana.

ADDED WITH HIS CURRENT MEANINGLESS CFP RANKINGS PREDICTION:
1) Clemson
2) Alabama
3) Ohio State
4) Oklahoma State
5) Oklahoma
6) ND

Right, Herbstreit, because a one loss Oklahoma team who lost TO FRICKIN TEXAS WHO WAS SHUT OUT BY IOWA STATE winning over an INFINITELY overrated Baylor team should shoot them up all the way up to #5. Makes perfect sense.

I'll emphasize this again: Oklahoma is a good team, possibly even a great team, but they lost to a team that got SHUT OUT BY IOWA STATE I don't care if it's Iowa, Alabama, or the Green Bay Packers, a loss like that should automatically disqualify a team.

Herbstreit clearly has decided (or more likely been told) to take an anti-Iowa position this year, as Iowa being higher in the rankings can only help the reputation and perception of his precious Buckeyes that ran him out of town.

Ban this guy from Iowa City.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt ... maybe he has some lingering concussion symptoms and too much SEC kool-aid on the SECSPN set.

It begs a question, though, in my mind:

Would Herbstreit ever be able to work for BTN? For that matter, would Desmond Howard or Joey Galloway?

Then again, Galloway wouldn't even BE the dumbest O$U alum on the network, that honor having been won in landslide fashion by the guy who did that BTN show alongside Jon Miller.

I know Revsine used to work at ESPN. I also know there is a stronger tie developing between and Fox Sports. Would BTN ever want guys like that? I sure hope not.

Yea, that guy absolutely blew. He was hard to listen to.

Why do you care so much?

Why is everyone seeking some sort of validation from Kirk Herbstreit/ESPN/Colin Cowherd/Who ever the f*ck else?

Quite honestly all the whining about it is getting old, and more annoying than the actual "naysayers"

who even cares anymore??

Exactly. Some people got to let this go.

Some talking heads just don't like Iowa and won't like Iowa until they beat MSU, Michigan, or Ohio St. And their #1 job is to **** fans off because that drives ratings through the roof. Seems to me that Herbstreit and many other ESPN guys are doing their jobs very well.

Who would've thunk that Joey Galloway makes more sense than Kirk Herbstreit?!

Much as I hated it when JDM lost that show, his partner all but made it easy to appreciate J Leman! Truth be told, ol' "J" has kinda grown on me. Maybe it was the sweet cashmere overcoat he wore as the sideline reporter one time.

We actually have a lot to be thankful for with BTN. For instance:

--Never had to watch Jonathan "Coach" Coachman or Keith Olbermann
--Haven't had to listen to Michael Wilbon pretend he has met and befriended every murdered Black athlete killed since 1970
--No "PTI" means, "No automatic IQ Reduction Due to a Moronic TV show being on while I am in the room" applies to my household
--The Belt stays with Griffith and DiNardo forever!

I don't get worked up about what Colin or Herb have to say but at this point it's almost like a story... I can't stop reading/following along now.

I want to know the answer to the question...

What will it take for these guys to admit a mistake? Undefeated regular season? A Big 10 title win? What if we make the playoff and win a game?

I hope I get to find out that answer!!

This is the exact point I was making in the thread I started entitle "Oklahoma". I agreed 100%. Any team that loses to a team that got blanked by iowa state is grounds for automatic elimination from ever being considered for the playoffs. PERIOD!! That loss to Texas is about as bad as it gets......at least this year's texas team.

The Iowa bashers won't shut up until Iowa wins against Ohio State. It is really that simple. I'm not predicting that Iowa WILL defeat Ohio State, but they won't shut up until Iowa does it.

I really don't see what there is to get worked up about. What Kirk is saying is that he doesn't see us as one of his top 6 teams, however, we will get our shot. If we keep winning, we will be up there.

OSU, Alabama, ND, and Clemson are all up there on talent alone. Oklahoma looks really good right now, and Oklahoma State is flashy. With those teams you know what you get. However, we are an enigma in many ways. Can we stop the run? We thought we could until a few teams have ran the read-option against us. Can we throw it? We have only trailed in the second half by a few minutes combined and haven't had to. We can run, but will we be able to run into an elite defensive line? We have shown some glaring weaknesses (not stopping the read option and pass protection) and until we show we can be consistent with those things we won't get the respect that we are seeking. However we have been consistent with winning because our coaching staff really doesnt buy into any of the hype.

Let it all play out. Herby is doing his job and doing it well. We just need to keep winning, and as a fan, I hope we are holding something in the bag for these read-options. Our offense I believe is much better than anyone thinks, but our defense may not be. But lets see.

There's only one opinion that matters and it comes out on Tuesday nights.

Right now, Iowa is #5 in that race, so all the talking heads can say anything they want, but obviously the CFP committee ain't hearin' that nonsense. Neither should we.

Living in TX right now, I can honestly also say that nobody around here seems to be hating on Iowa, so even being as all-powerful as ESPN is, they aren't winning the hearts and minds of folks outside of Iowa.

I remember Herbstreit saying some nice things about Iowa earlier this year after the Wisconsin game, etc. so don't think he's 100% anti Iowa, necessarily. Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but it doesn't mean we have to agree with them.

For the record, I think KH is full of beans talking about OU being ahead of Iowa.. Not with that loss to TX.

Herbstreit has always said if Iowa wins out they will be in and would just replace Ohio St that he currently projects as a playoff team.

So he projects OSU to beat Iowa and make the playoffs, who gives a f**k, in the end he is correct in saying Iowa would take their spot with a win.

People, these "talking heads" need ratings to support their jobs. Sometimes they pick a stance which rubs one group of fans the wrong way. If they see a fan group getting agitated, they will keep doing it. For them it is great for their rating. The fan base is talking about it on their message boards and so on. You are supporting their cause if you keep whining about it.

Even if that happens, the mantra will be "B1G was weak".

I am biased, of course, but espn is simply "entertainment". these experts know exactly as much as I do, they just have a national platform for their opinion.

Always like Herbie, but he bet and lost on this one.

It's all becoming very "meh".

Keep winning Hawks.
