Kirk Herbstreit on Iowa

yeah...that was great. He sometimes gets off base, but Herby does tend to call it like he sees it. He's absolutely right about that game. It wasn't one team not playing well...it was both teams playing at a high level in various aspects. They just happened to have the best back in a decade of college football...maybe ever.

Not only do they have the best player, it took one of his best games. I feel pretty good about Iowa even after that loss.

One of?... it was not only his BEST game, ever, but THEE best individual game in the history of Penn State football!

As ALWAYS, Iowa is capable. As ALWAYS the questions are, can they overcome the inherent obstacles of methodical scheme and dogmatic strategy and consistently compete on such a high level?

I think we'll see MSU, UM and OSU, move the ball and score against PSU. We've got it in our mind that they are somehow awesome dominant on D. We'll discover that they are merely strong.

Brian was in over his head on Saturday. He'll get better. But he got schooled.

I disagree. Iowa had the lead with 4 seconds left in the game. Sometimes you just get beat by a better team.

There weren't 6 inches between #27 Hooker from getting his fingers on that pass and deflecting it away either. Hats off to them for crying out loud it's not like they stink. PSU is as good and highly thought of a program as there is right now (on the field) No shame at all in losing it at all. Hope team keeps their heads up and builds off of it.

The irony of college sports is if Iowa would up held the upset you can bet the pundits would have taken him out of the Heisman race because they would of forgot about his performance in a loss.Grant it it would not affect me as I would still be gloating today if we had won but the Heisman should be based on the best college player not the team holding the NC trophy and its hard for me to pick a better player four games in. We'll see as the season goes on if those of us at the game and watched it on T.V. got to see the Heisman winner have a hell of a game.

I don't think so. Not with that performance and a close loss early in the season. If he would have lost but finished strong that game would have been forgotten. I think they would have stated that he carried that team even though they lost. Cripes sake, he had 358 all purpose yrds, something like 211 yds rushing, 12 receptions. Nobody would have looked past that, win or lose. The guy leads the BIG conference now in both rushing and receiving. That's rediculous.

Another point of irony that never makes sense. If the rankings are the top 25 teams, would Iowa have been ranked if they had won? So the fact that Hooker missed the ball by inches means Iowa's not as good as if he had tipped it? In other words, some teams are better than Iowa that wouldn't be better than Iowa if that play ends differently.

Keep in mind, I'm not arguing anything about whether or not Iowa should be ranked (my opinion is that they shouldn't be), just that the rankings are messed up in certain cases like this.

I agree on the ranking part but as long as Iowa takes care of business the rest of the season that is a GOOD Loss so cowterd can't ding us!

Someone correct me but I think Iowa inched closer to top 25 with that loss than the week prior.
