Before I get a flood of posters saying "OMG just enjoy the victories WHO CARES," I'm perfectly capable of discussing an "expert" opinion on the Iowa Hawkeyes and still enjoying the season. Kirk Herbstreit's opinion takes nothing away from my enjoyment of this season. I am loving every second of being 11-0, but I like talking about this.
Kirk's latest CFP rankings:
1) Clemson
2) Alabama
3) Michigan State
4) Oklahoma
5) Notre Dame
6) Baylor
This man is a complete and utter fool.
I don't want to take anything away from Michigan State. They should have a firm spot in the top 10. But to put them at #3 when they have a loss to a sub .500 Nebraska when Iowa is sitting in the conference undefeated at 11-0?
Ludicrous, incomprehensible, bush-league stuff from Herbstreit.
Not only did MSU lose to a sub .500 Nebraska team, they won on a the flukiest ending to a game I've literally EVER seen. If Michigan's punter secures the football, then MSU has two losses and we're not even having this discussion. The win over Ohio State was nice, but it's not as great as people are making it out to be. Ohio State hasn't been tested all year and was ranked so high purely out of respect for winning the national championship last year.
Again, it was a great win; anytime you win in Columbus is impressive. But when you have one loss to a sub .500 team and honestly should have lost the only other strong team you've played in conference, there is just no justification to rank them THIRD.
Meanwhile, Iowa doesn't even crack Herbstreit's TOP 6 despite being one of the two remaining undefeated teams late into November and despite Iowa's climb in the AP and Coaches Polls to #3.
Maybe if Herbstreit had an ounce of credibility then someone with actual influence in the college football world would care what he thinks.
