Kirk Herbstreit has no credibility

Before I get a flood of posters saying "OMG just enjoy the victories WHO CARES," I'm perfectly capable of discussing an "expert" opinion on the Iowa Hawkeyes and still enjoying the season. Kirk Herbstreit's opinion takes nothing away from my enjoyment of this season. I am loving every second of being 11-0, but I like talking about this.

Kirk's latest CFP rankings:

1) Clemson
2) Alabama
3) Michigan State
4) Oklahoma
5) Notre Dame
6) Baylor

This man is a complete and utter fool.

I don't want to take anything away from Michigan State. They should have a firm spot in the top 10. But to put them at #3 when they have a loss to a sub .500 Nebraska when Iowa is sitting in the conference undefeated at 11-0?

Ludicrous, incomprehensible, bush-league stuff from Herbstreit.

Not only did MSU lose to a sub .500 Nebraska team, they won on a the flukiest ending to a game I've literally EVER seen. If Michigan's punter secures the football, then MSU has two losses and we're not even having this discussion. The win over Ohio State was nice, but it's not as great as people are making it out to be. Ohio State hasn't been tested all year and was ranked so high purely out of respect for winning the national championship last year.

Again, it was a great win; anytime you win in Columbus is impressive. But when you have one loss to a sub .500 team and honestly should have lost the only other strong team you've played in conference, there is just no justification to rank them THIRD.

Meanwhile, Iowa doesn't even crack Herbstreit's TOP 6 despite being one of the two remaining undefeated teams late into November and despite Iowa's climb in the AP and Coaches Polls to #3.

Maybe if Herbstreit had an ounce of credibility then someone with actual influence in the college football world would care what he thinks.

I think he is trolling somewhat to cause an uproar and get eyeballs on espn tuesday night for the CFP poll show.

As much as I hate to say it that is likely to be the rankings. We might be 6th though.

I can't tell if he's just trying to **** people off or if he's drank so much kool aid he actually believes what he is saying. He doesn't seem the shock job type like Cowherd, so it's hard to say. I haven't been paying too much attention to him though, plenty of other media guys who are impartial.

i don't think Iowa will lose, but on the bright side, if we lose on a fluke play he'll probably rocket us to #2

I assume he thinks the Hawks will lose to Nebby and it's been obvious this past week that he's been frustrated with Hawkeye fans and Iowa media coming at him on Twitter.

He's a national talking head. What does he expect? People to agree with every opinion he throws out there?

Besides, it's unprofessional to take a position against a team because he doesn't like the fans. He should be judging the team based on what they've accomplished, not what some fans and media have tweeted at him.

He's a joke.

Kirk IMO seems like a company man and no surprise to me that he seems at the forefront of those at ESPN questioning Iowa. It all boils down to a game of money and the execs at ESPN know that the Iowa fan base will react and keep tuning and logging in to see what outrageous things they will say next. As a Big Ten guy I would bet that Kirk loves seeing the Hawks coming out of nowhere to achieve what they have. What you see on the air has nothing to do with reality IMO.

People like him don't even bother me at this point. I just chuckle when I see the obvious hate. As long as Iowa keeps winning I don't care what knuckleheads like Herb think.

Iowa hasn't really impressed me in games with Purdue, Minnesota and Maryland, 40 points not withstanding.

We'll see how the hawks do against teams that don't shoot themselves in the foot.

Herbstreit isn't bad. I believe that he is a little gun shy given the multiple times that he has picked Iowa to win their division or finish high in the B1G. Hell, last year he picked them as a dark horse for the CFP. It's just that people want to pick on him because he isn't a "fan" of the team. Meanwhile, I see every bad play or call by the staff as "here we go again" and "I can't believe I bought in".

It's not just that he "isn't a fan."

It's that he has no objective reason to have MSU in the #3 spot above Iowa and it just wreaks of bias.

Good post. I'm guilty of exactly what you mention. Heck, read any of the last few game threads. Many of us are expecting the worst at every hiccup.

I may not really understand why Kirk rags on Iowa all the time, but the man is one of the best color commentators in the game...I love listening to him call games.

Yeah, I was pretty impressed with Alabama's loss at home to Ole, a game in which they trailed the entire game. It impressed me further that Ole Miss went on to lose 2 of their next 3 games after kicking Alabama's azz. I was also impressed with Alabama's win over Charleston Southern, yesterday. Have you noticed how EfSecPN has barely mentioned that game?

We still have a lot to prove. I am confident that if our team keeps playing one game at a time then our kids will have good things coming their way. It may be a Big Ten championship, it may be the Rose Bowl, or it may be the playoff. Either way our guys will be ready to play.

I watched him on Gameday, and he is a of the belief that the CFB should reflect the 4 best teams at the end of the season, not who is most deserving. He even asked that question of the committee, what is our real goal here? And he is absolutely right, there has never been a clarification as to what the goal is. If we only go by the eye test at the end of the season, it makes the first half of the regular season useless. If it is solely on record, then nobody will schedule anyone. He believes right now that the teams he has above us will beat us. That's all. But I think the committee has a different agenda. I think they are valuing the regular season and appreciate how difficult it is to go undefeated no matter who you play. I will be very surprised if we are not in the top four this week, maybe even 3.
