Kirk haters beware...

Nah I just realized Arvada is a troll after seeing his post in the Frank Darby thread. Makes more sense now.

I am no troll. You are the troll. See how that works?

You just can't stand it when Kirk Ferentz is held accountable. You have an undying affinity for the man. To each his own. But just because you kneel at the alter of Kirk Ferentz doesn't mean you are correct about him all of the time. Only a close minded individual doesn't consider alternatives to their own line of thought. But, that is your choice.

Not even sure where to go with that. My point is that your arbitrary "requirements" are just that: arbitrary.

I guess I needed a sarcasm emoji on the Fitzgerald comment. But see his resume...

Bob, what percentage of coaches at the P5 college level become head coaches at a PT school without an extensive or commiserate degree of coaching experience? Pat Fitzgerald. That's 1. But let's remember that he was hired in a pinch because the previous coach suddenly passed away. Fitz didn't land at NW as the head coach as the winner of a long and exhaustive coaching search.

Name some others, please.

Sure bud. Not gonna waste my time with your thoughts anymore. Good day.

Pat Fitzgerald would be hired in a nanosecond by many elite programs in search for a coach. There's no doubt about that. He's 70-56 partly because he coaches at Northwestern. It's his alma mater. He's passionate about it. It's where he wants to be. He's had opportunities to go elsewhere, and if he ever decides that he wants to he'd have great offers in a heartbeat.
I don't care what the reasons are. It's ASS. If you like ass.....hire the man.

I only needed to name one. YOU were the one with the stipulations, not me.

I'm confused ... is New-Kirk getting an extension, or not? If he gets alleged extension, will he go retro-stagnant, like the last time? Will everyone hate him (as a coach, of course)? At that point, will Brian be named head coach?

Don't want to reread last 4 pages to cipher it out. Thanx in advance.

I'd give KF a 1 year roll over extension at the same salary with more dollars tied to incentives. The buyout ends with the original 10 year contract. There should never be a buyout with a coach who's staying until retirement.

I think four years for an extension is about right. I think Ferentz has probably earned it when you take his record in its entirety. I'd lessen the buy-out for sure though.

I agree. Last season helped a lot. You don't want to hamstring your coach in recruiting; which I think a succession of 1 year extensions would do. But vastly......VASTLY change the buyout language. But the extension is about recruiting, to a very large degree. So, let the extension make a statement to prospective recruits.

Bret Bielema DID NOT!!! Now who's the idiot? Assistant under Fry, Assistant under KF, Assistant under Schnieder. Assistant/DC under Alverez. That's 3 different P5 programs and 3 Hall of Famer Head Coaches.
Pat Fitzgerald is 70-56 as a Head Coach. That's ASS! Get a clue.
You cannot possibly know how good other coaches are, how they may or may not fit your own phil/scheme, what there work ethic is, unless you see it first hand or you absolutely trust their current employer's recommendation. It's not that easy. You might want to argue that it is.....but you're wrong. Otherwise, people like Kaz, Zook, Brewster and hundreds of others would still have Head Coaching jobs.

70-56...@ NW. That ain't shabby.

Agreed. Was it not just a year ago that we couldn't wait to get rid of KF, but the huge buyout was the problem? Now after ONE big year, we want to extend him 4 more years and start this all over again? Some people obviously haven't learned from past mistakes. If KF is extended that far out, then the buyout can't be so significant.

Sure, keep 4-5 years on KF's contract for recruiting purposes, but let's not bump this thing back out to 2024 or 2025 again, and be right back where we were. That's ludicrous. If last year proves to be a flash in the pan and we go back to 2011-2014 type football again, then what?

Common sense....that's all. Use common sense.

Ferentz will coach as long as he wants at Iowa. That is now an indisputable fact. Will his son be the next coach? If they keep competing for division and BIG titles, I think it could happen. 12-2 and a no. 9 ranking go a long way.
I agree. Its a possibilty
