Kirk haters beware...

ferentz is coaching until he decides to hang it up. He's not going to any other school obviously. he's not going to the NFL at his age. You have to have the HC under contract for 5 years in the future for recruiting purposes. My guess is he coaches for a few more years after his last kid graduates then retires.

CJ saved kirk's ass....

^^^^^^^ THIS^^^^^^^^^
An above average quarterback combined with a very weak schedule added up to twelve wins. It will be interesting to see what happens two seasons from now when CJ is gone. I hope we at that point are talking about how CJ won a national championship for us the year before and what a great season we just had with a new QB.

What the hell does Trump have to do with any of this?

The term "hater" has become the pop-culture way of summarily dismissing legitimate criticism that one has no response for or just doesn't like. (slapping a label on someone is the easy way out...intellectually vacuous...but easy)

The irony comes from you calling out someone else as "another anonymous internet guy firing off a hateful insult", when you in essence were doing just that...rather than post about a possible extension for KFz you threw in the snark. Love to dish it out, not so good at getting it back. Thus the need for a safe space. (the double down on the overused "hate" cliche was a pretty good clue)

But as the saying goes....if I have to explain it....

back to topic (which was an interesting one), as many pointed out the extension makes sense from a recruiting standpoint. He may not complete that extension but it's critical to recruiting continuity.

Well, now that you bring it up......... Several years ago I sent Jon a private message suggesting a couple of things; First, get rid of the thread counter as it leads to the snarky remarks you are referring to as some people like to see their post numbers run up by posting meaningless garb. I am glad to see they did that.

Second, have everyone post under their real names and their state and/or city. This would cut down on a lot of personal insults of the players, coaches, and our forum members. The names could be verified by the use of an active credit card. I would have no problem with this at all. Why should Jon and Rob have to be accountable while everyone else hides under their mommy's dress?

My real name was used on hawk forum many years ago as a boy with cancer who lives here in Georgia had a football signed by KF and all of his assistants and I put my name out there in public to aid in helping the boy get the football. I actually had possession of that ball for several weeks until I had contact with the boy's doctors and passed the ball onto them and had them give the ball to the young boy. So I don't have a problem with it.

Now maybe their would be some liability issues that Jon doesn't want to deal with as far as libel or defamation of character is concerned. If that is the case Jon I understand.

Why would someone be afraid to post under their own name? Other than fear of looking like a dork for being on here so much I guess. It's not like Kirk is going to track someone down for saying he sucks.

Why don't you do it then? Is PCHawk your real name?

Yup, you got that right!!! Our 'old' QB was horrible and couldn't play for ANYONE in the B10 let alone ever get drafted!!! Same old Morons, still trying to justify their idiocracy....."Here's your sign".....

All that proved is we lack the ability to coach up QBs. CJ is doing it on natural ability. Yep Jake was awesome as a Hawkeye. He also had better receivers to throw to at Michigan. I was happy for him. I always wished him nothing but the best. He had a great arm when he was in high school and I thought he would have done better than he did at Iowa. It took him a few games to get back on track at Michigan but once THEIR coach got his confidence back he became the QB I had hoped he would have become at Iowa and the one that I bragged up on this forum when he committed to Iowa.

There is something lacking with our QB coaching. The other Jake looked good as a Junior especially against Ohio State but that changed with him also and he looked terrible as a senior. That's coaching and despite it all CJ has worked through it.

You called me an idiot, brother. You were anonymous when you did it and your anonymity made it feel easier for you to post such a word. Nothing I wrote there was untrue, no? And calling someone an idiot is in line with what Trump does to people he doesn't agree with, so I did throw that in there. Nothing I wrote about you was nearly as bad as what you called me.

I don't like safe spaces on college campuses, they're a joke, btw.

No, hard feelings though. Let's move on.

No, you and drummer keep it going probably be the only entertaining thing we have going on around here til football season starts.:)

Ferentz will coach as long as he wants at Iowa. That is now an indisputable fact. Will his son be the next coach? If they keep competing for division and BIG titles, I think it could happen. 12-2 and a no. 9 ranking go a long way.

I've said this before and I believe it. BF should go to a MAC school, or somewhere else, and be a head coach before he becomes a B1G head coach. Unless you've been been a coordinator for 5 years or more, you're first hc gig shouldn't be at a B1G school. No one knows if BF will or will not be a good hc. He doesn't have a track record. And for those who think BF is somehow ready to be hc because he "coached" under Belichek, go look it up. He was there for 3 seasons, but was only a position coach for 1 season, his last. He wasn't even on the field his first year and was a coaches "helper" his second.

You do realize his father was never a coordinator. And that 3 year stint at Maine wasn't exactly amazing. BF already knows what it takes to win here he doesn't need to coach at Kent St. to figure it out. Maybe BF is the next Urban Meyer or maybe he is running an insurance company in 10 years I just think this nepotism/experience thing is being overplayed.

I keep hearing people say this, but I'm not sure why. I realize that it is more traditional for a OC or DC to be promoted to head coach, but it isn't a necessity. Brian is still in the trenches participating in the decision making. Being a head coach isn't only about X's and O's. Now that's a huge part of it. Don't get me wrong. However, I think he has the X's and O's part down just fine even if he's only the offensive line coach. The ability to lead young men and an entire program is what's most important, and I have to admit every single time I hear Brian interviewed I come away impressed. The guy clearly knows his football, and he isn't afraid to speak his mind. I love that. He's certainly different from his Dad in that respect. He comes across like he is an outstanding leader. If he were my coach back int he day I think I would have loved to play for him.

I guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if Brian went straight from being oline coach to head coach and GD Greg Davis stays as the OC.

Regardless of what a person thinks about BF, he has never been in charge of an entire program. No one knows how well he will react with he's responsible for 10 assistant coaches, 85 players, boosters, the AD, the President, dozen's of media responsibilities, multiple GA's, recruiting coordinators, etc. He was a TE coach for 1 season in the NFL and has been an OL coach for 3 seasons. That is not a track record or resume that should get anyone the HC job at a B1G school. He either needs to be an OC in the B1G for at least 5 years or a HC in another (MAC, perhaps) conference for at least 3 seasons.

Matt Campbell has it all figured out since he coached at Toledo.

And that was almost 20 years ago. But KF also had almost 10 years as the OL coach at Iowa under Fry, and several years as OL coach in the NFL. And still he was a HC at Maine, before becoming HC at Iowa. KF's coaching experience before becoming HC at Iowa blows away BF's. It isn't even comparable, at this point. Now, if BF becomes the OC at Iowa for 5 years, that's different. But he needs to be an OC at a P5 school for 5 years or a HC for at least 3 years to prove himself.

Brian may, or may not, end up as a candidate for the head job when KF retires. But, anyone who thinks he won't have a lot of very good competition for this job if he is a candidate is naive. His name will have nothing to do with whether or not he gets an offer. This is a multi million dollar contract in a highly visible program that competes in a power 5 conference. If you really think he has an "in" I would question your judgement. BTW, I think Brian is a very good line coach and I am glad he is on our staff.
