Kirk haters beware...

The Des Moines Register is endorsing Kirk getting an extension on his contract. The reporter recommended a four year extension and I think that's about right.

Kirk's about to turn 61 so at this point, it's about 95% that, whenever he leaves Iowa, it's gonna be when he retires and rides off into the sunset.

And to make the haters really get frosted it mentioned that, if Kirk continues being successful overall, look for Brian to take over the reigns eventually.

So I guess it's just best to deal with the reality Kirk-loathers.

Carry on.

You do realize that Ferentz must have an extension or recruiting will suffer, right? I mean, you understand that, right?

Unless you believe that Kirk wants to coach forever, ya might as well extend him another 4 or 5 years, because he's probably going to retire within the next 5 or 6 years anyway, I'd imagine. I just hope they do what they need to do to avoid negatively impacting recruiting during the transition.

carry on being an idiot

Another anonymous message board guy firing off a hateful insult. Nothing new there.

A year ago several people on this board wouldn't have wanted to give Ferentz even a one year extension. I do realize that recruits need to know a coach will be there for four years but they don't need to give him four years, they could have given him less than four-that's the point.

And if giving him four years isn't newsworthy, then why did the Des Moines Register use up ink and a lot space in the paper to write about it?

Iowa will go through their normal process. Brian will not be handed the reigns "just 'cuz".

Don't have a problem with extension if pay isn't ridiculous.Everyone is fooling themselves if they think coach has changed that much.Players change, attitudes change but coaches are doing what they've always done, their teaching in a pro set with a fullback. Were not a spread offense with a lot of gimmicks.

Since the current contract already goes through Jan of 2020 lets see if Kirk can string together a couple really decent seasons than talk contract. I doubt he has other plans.

Ferentz will coach as long as he wants at Iowa. That is now an indisputable fact. Will his son be the next coach? If they keep competing for division and BIG titles, I think it could happen. 12-2 and a no. 9 ranking go a long way.

^^^This. Barring some major scandal there will be a Ferentz in charge for at least the next decade.

That's some serious irony, dude. BTW, see if you can squeeze the cliche'd "hate" in at least one more time. We'll be sure to find you a safe space.

It's not irony. Using the terms"Kirk-hater" or a "Kirk-lover" to no one in particular is called needling/razzing/giving a group of people crap. It was meant to start a conversation and it's not offensive at all if you're not the over-sensitive type. Directly calling someone an "idiot" is insulting someone and very Trump-like in fact. Don't need any safe space, I've been called worse.

Brian's not going to go from OL coach to head coach. Are y'all assuming he gets the OC job soon?

I keep hearing people say this, but I'm not sure why. I realize that it is more traditional for a OC or DC to be promoted to head coach, but it isn't a necessity. Brian is still in the trenches participating in the decision making. Being a head coach isn't only about X's and O's. Now that's a huge part of it. Don't get me wrong. However, I think he has the X's and O's part down just fine even if he's only the offensive line coach. The ability to lead young men and an entire program is what's most important, and I have to admit every single time I hear Brian interviewed I come away impressed. The guy clearly knows his football, and he isn't afraid to speak his mind. I love that. He's certainly different from his Dad in that respect. He comes across like he is an outstanding leader. If he were my coach back int he day I think I would have loved to play for him.

I guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if Brian went straight from being oline coach to head coach and GD Greg Davis stays as the OC.

What the hell does Trump have to do with any of this?

The term "hater" has become the pop-culture way of summarily dismissing legitimate criticism that one has no response for or just doesn't like. (slapping a label on someone is the easy way out...intellectually vacuous...but easy)

The irony comes from you calling out someone else as "another anonymous internet guy firing off a hateful insult", when you in essence were doing just that...rather than post about a possible extension for KFz you threw in the snark. Love to dish it out, not so good at getting it back. Thus the need for a safe space. (the double down on the overused "hate" cliche was a pretty good clue)

But as the saying goes....if I have to explain it....

back to topic (which was an interesting one), as many pointed out the extension makes sense from a recruiting standpoint. He may not complete that extension but it's critical to recruiting continuity.
