Kirk Ferentz Answers Questions from HN Members, Part II

These questions were what I expected....softballs!!! How about ONE question concerning why a National Championship has NEVER been uttered from you as a goal whilst the HC at Iowa.....and given your salary, shouldn't it be the ultimate goal?

Probably because if you are vying for a BIG championship, you are probably in good position to make the playoff so would be a given. Goal is to win a BIG c-ship and if that opportunity lends itself to play for a NC, than goals can be appended.

I'm glad he was asked and answered the question about who calls plays. Most people know the OC calls the game, but I think it quashes a lot of speculation when Ferentz himself comes out and says that it's very rare for him to override Davis.

Unfortunately it makes me less confident in and more baffled by Greg Davis than I already was.

I'm 100% certain you missed this part of his response:

So, it’s all approved through me. I’ve got the right to veto anything at anytime, game day or during the week. So, ultimately everything falls on my plate. If we don’t do well, that’s where the blame goes

I find it weird that you've lost all confidence in a guy no one had confidence in to begin with, but you haven't lost confidence in the guy who hired him. If it was coordinators that won and lost games then no head coach would ever be fired.

I like the questions but I do agree with you that Kirk is more comfortable talking about how Iowa is actually liddle ole Iowa. Kirk's motto: "We're little ole Iowa and we're hoping for a win against NDSU."

And I'm 100% certain you didn't read my post after that one in this same thread.

You're spare parts, aren't ya, bud?

1) Ferentz wouldn't answer that question.

2) The interview would be over at that point.

3) Howe would never be invited back in that office. Ever.

You can argue all you want about whether media should be more hard assy, and we all wish they were, but until it's your ass and credentials at stake you don't have a leg to stand on. I'm guessing if you were sitting in a room talking to the Iowa staff you wouldn't say shit if you had a mouthful of it.

That interview was about the most non-speculative and informed piece published on this site since the beginning and I'm glad it was put out there. It would have been about a half a paragraph long if he would've gone in there and asked a bunch of loaded, rhetorical questions. Ferentz knows full well fans (including me) hate the way the games are called. Rubbing his nose in it is neither going to make him give a shit what you think, nor change what he does.

I also have a hard time thinking Davis would call a play he knew would fail, so maybe at this point he's conceding to Ferentz's conservatism; who knows. Either way, stupidity or calling dumb plays because he knows it's what the boss wants, Davis isn't a guy I want trying to score points.

He isn't conceding to it. He and Kirk are like-minded offensively. THAT'S WHY HE WAS HIRED. Jesus don't be like the other idiots and over-complicate this.

"Davis isn't a guy I want trying to score points." Well yeah, you and Kirk agree on that.

You're trying too hard to make this about Davis. Tell us what the offense is gonna look like if Davis isn't back in 2017?!?

I'll help: BORING - UNIMAGINATIVE - LOW-SCORING. If you think that's gonna change with KF in charge you are self-deluded and need help.

Josh, there isn't much I disagree with you on this, but you need help. FryIowa isn't Jesus.

I thought this was well done, Rob. Nice that you asked for questions from the HN forum and it appears to me that Coach Ferentz gave the questions thoughtful answers. Will be interested to see the analysis of the state of the program that he and the other coaches will do after the season.
