Kinnick expansion?

My first trip to Kinnick was about 30 years ago. I weigh about 190, but would prefer to shed a little bit though. How much do you weigh? Actually I don't really care. Feel free to keep that to yourself.

Like I said in a prior post. I really don't care about Kinnick one way or the other. The bench seats and field turf are laughable but it doesn't keep me away. I like the team that plays there but as a stadium it doesn't impress. It did when I was a kid but when I started to go to other college and NFL stadiums it proved to be just another old stadium.

I do enjoy the "we just spent 90 million, moron, your attention span and knowledge is short" crew. Just because you spent money, doesn't mean you spent it well. But you fellas are like most, our opinions are different. So that makes you right and me wrong. Carry on.

I'm not very big, but I could see how somebody wouldn't like it if they were large. You certainly are in the minority, Iowa fan or not. Most fans in the B1G consider it to be one of best places to see a game in the conference. I don't know how many stadiums you've been to, but aesthetically it is also near the top. The only NFL stadiums I have been to are Soldier, Tampa, and Miami. It absolutely destroys Soldier, and Miami, and I like it quite a bit more than Tampa, but it certainly isn't more comfortable.

Oh well, still really seems weird that you wouldn't think it is great. I really do question how many other stadiums you've been to. Kinnick is one of the best.

Individual seats would be nice for sure but obviously can't be done and still cram in 70k. I like the atmosphere of an on campus stadium and I'm glad that it what was done. I also thoought that a new stadium was deemed too expensive by the study committee or am I wrong about that?

You got me here. I've only been to a handful of other stadiums so maybe I shouldn't use comparisons very much regarding Kinnick. And quite honestly Kinnick is probably far superior to most but the ones I've been to are new and/or I just like them better, particularly with it comes to comfort and look.

I've been to:
Lambeau (buried everything else, if you're going to remodel an old stadium, this is the blueprint)
Soldier, new and old
Miami (whatever name they call it this month)
Raymond James
Met-Dome for NFL
Mile High, new only
I like the NFL stadiums better (Dome excluded) because they are designed to have 75,000+ people around. Kinnick isn't. Even with the remodel the concourse is tiny even when compared to small stadiums like TCF. Also those stadiums don't have the eyesores that Kinnick does and quite honestly most of them are new which helps a lot IMO.

TCF - small but very nice, physically superior or equal to Kinnick in every way but capacity. Sounds like the Vikings are going to fill in the upper deck and put heating coils under the field so its only getting better.
Sun Devil Stadium - I like the upper deck, gives it a bigger look, overall look and feel of the stadium was nice
Horseshoe - shear size is pretty cool
LA Coliseum- awesome stadium, the anti-Kinnick in that it has the coolest face of any stadium I've seen, in person or on TV

Regarding Kinnick:

The powers that be needing to have a "face" on it. The stadium is brick, the face should be brick or just leave it without one. They go with some plastic looking structure. Serious eyesore. No need for the tiger hawk or colors. Just keep the brick, it is Kinnick's identity.

The cheap Nile Kinnick statue. We're talking about the most famous Hawkeye ever. Make that ****** out of granite. Looks and feels cheap. A child could dent that thing.

The premium club seats should be in the middle of the stadium, (rows 30-40 or so, kind of like boxes at regular stadiums) not the top.

Between the 30s, the first few rows of seats in any stadium should be the best. At Kinnick, they're the worst seats in the house.

Kinnick has not been the same since the last remodeling.

Agreed. The entire south section is pushed much further away from the field and they also put the entire student section out there. Took the student body and that entire end of the field completely out of the game. The modern day kinnick is not even close to as nasty as it was in the early days of Ferentz.

Moving the students was a huge mistake. Massively hurt the home stadium advantage. Just as stupid as when the pushed the students up away from the floor at Carver.

They really should find a way to squeeze 4-5,000 more seats in Kinnick. It could be done. Engineering is very rarely about things not being 'possible', more about being 'feasible'. They most likely don't think they'd make their money back within a reasonable length of time.

They are building (3) $300Million structures on the same ground accross the street. They just have to dig down to the bedrock which i believe is 60-65 feet down. .

Interesting.

The current bedrock which the east side of Kinnick's pillars rest cannot hold more weight as is.

Not sure why my quote was used??

As I said...."as is" (i.e. without drilling 60 feet down), the current bedrock which Kinnick sits on (east side) cannot support more weight, thus no more seats, thus no expansion.
If they wanted to expand, they could add more club seats to the east side. There is nothing stopping them.

This is dead on. When I was a student from 98-2002 the student section was loud (well in 01 & 02 when we are actually good that is). It was an intimidating place. It completely lost that when they moved the students. I sit on the 8 yard line now right next to the students and I can barely hear them. They are a non factor

The south endzone is not on as steep of an incline as the rest of the stadium (IIRC, it was a deal where they can't build stands that steep anymore), and thus more noise is lost due to the worse acoustics. It just doesn't trap the sound as well.

With so many folks thinking the program is in such a death spiral and fans bailing from going yo games... an expansion isn't necessary....lol

I laugh and spit in their general direction.....

Kinnick is great....

Go Hawks
