KF says he's coming back

Saw on the X from the usual suspects that KF is saying he's not retiring and didn't seem to be mincing his words while saying it. I for one didn't think that was a given. But evidently he's got another yr in him. How we all feel about that?

The Captain is the Commander

Somehow, he manages to get 8 wins a season most of the time

Despite the discrepancy with recruiting against the cash cows with millions of NIL money

Of course, we have to discover the ways and means to land a solid QB
It is nice to know our floor is higher then Nebraskas ceiling. And several other programs. Dude will be 70 in August. I'll be fascinated with how it goes down as much so as when. He doesn't seem like the guy who'll announce prior to next yr that he's gonna retire after it so they can plan ahead hire within etc etc. But hell if I know. I'd kinda had this yr being pegged for being it for him for awhile now. He's fooled me a few times already.

I think what it really means is that KF is probably going to have to have a 1998 Fry type season to be moved out the door. The man is 70. Saban coached until 72. Bowden and Paterno were in their 80s. Bill Belicheck is 72 and is looking to start a new gig in the NFL. KF looks and acts pretty damn good for 70. He loves what he does and I just don't see him retiring voluntarily anytime soon.

Now, optimistically, one could say that Iowa is coming off a decent year with 8-9 wins and did so with zero QB play (once again). Parker has shown a remarkable ability to reload the D and Lester will continue to revamp and update the offense with players that fit his system and QBs that can actually make plays here and there. One could put the win total at 6-9 again next season.

Pessimistically, Iowa is losing a lot of players to graduation. Key starters on both sides. Next year could be a Oklahoma State type season, bringing an unceremonious end to the KF era. Time shall tell, but for the crowd looking for KF to ride off into the sunset anytime soon, you are dreaming.

My gut has been telling me that this season would be his last given the conference changes, NIL challenges, etc.

We'll see, but if he announces in a few months he certainly wouldn't be the first coach to say he is staying then leave anyway.

What else is he going to do? Follow Mary around the house and ask for chores to do?

The big names like Saban are getting out because they are used to winning trophies and doing so with very specific ways that they perfected. NIL changed the landscape and Saban knew his time was over. He got out.

I think KF is very comfortable he can continue to wins 7-9 games per year in the new college football landscape. With those sorts of modest goals, he may not be wrong.

Is what it is, I've gotten to the age that I don't care that much anymore. I think KF knows more about what Iowa's ceiling is and what size christmas tree fits it. I doubt the results wouldn't be that much different with anyone else at the helm. If they would be tell me how it's worked for, Nebraska, Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin, Indiana ( and this year is one out how many for them) Michigan state, Oklahoma, USC and several other schools that have had multiple coaches in the 27 years KF has had this one. I haven't seen any of them better than the coach before them. I remember Tom Davis wasn't good enough to keep and look what that's gotten us in how many years in Bb. It's Iowa, we're Iowa and we are where we belong right in the middle of the United States. It sucks but it's reality.

I've always been a supporter, so have no issue at all if he stays.

He appears to genuinely like what he's doing, so as long as he's got the energy to do the job and is receiving satisfaction, he has the right to go out on his own terms.

At some point, especially if the on-the-field results suffer, the criticisms and grind will become too much and he will step away. Personally, I'd like to see him go out on a reasonably high note, but we'll see what happens.

We better hope you are right. Sunset better be awhile. News flash: I have a lot of friends in their seventies, along with me. I can assure you that we haven’t found our car keys in the refrigerator. You younger guys had better hope you are as mentally fit at the level of many In their seventies.

As I posted only one time this year, during last Saturday's game, college football in today's world passed KF by several years ago. Yet, he seems to have a decent team record yearly.

While watching Iowa consistently try to run between the tackles last Friday was boring and frustrating as usual, the Hawks still managed to win the game. Thanks defense and Kaleb Johnson for a run after a catch no one else on the team could do.

Once he does leave, the Hawks may go down for a bit, but with a caveat.

To use a baseball reference, If Beth Goetz is as good as she appears to be, she will hit it out of the park with a new hire or at least hit one to the gap for a triple.

Barta, no chance with that fool making a good FB head coaching hire, so happy he's out.

Until KF is gone, Iowa will be a boring and frustrating team to watch, but it is what it is.

KF does not have to publicly announce when he will retire. He just has to let Beth know. Then she can put the wheels in motion. Hopefully, it will be someone already on staff as we have some very good pieces already.

I think in many ways, he has earned the right to decide when he wants to go. I don't think KF will overstay his welcome. He loves what he does and truly enjoys working with his guys. I have some optimism for next year. Hoping the portal is good to us and we can pick up a few key needs. I don't think our recruiting was terrible but again with how the NIL and portal work, verbal commitments don't mean much until they are on campus and then after a year, they could be elsewhere anyways with the portal.

I would love to see Iowa have one of those years that we shock the world when the expectations are low. It's definitely rare to see guys go out on a positive note or on top. If next year, he gets the all-time Big Ten wins record and Iowa has a decent year, I would be fine if he wants to go. That being said, what KF has done for this program, I am fine letting him coach until he sees fit.
